You should be fine! When I went to accept the waitlist offer it said that I had until April 15th to respond. Good luck!

I just got an email from McGill saying that I am on their waitlist, and my status changed on uApply. Does anyone know if McGill will disclose where on the waitlist applicants are?

Np! And apparently it's actually members of the faculty that make the calls!

It looks like they actually call, so it can take a few days to contact everyone.

When do we think McGill will start making calls? Going back to previous years, it seems like they consistently started making calls the Wednesday of the second week of March? So maybe they could start calling as of March 10th of this week? Ahh! I'm so nervous!

Haha! The same thing happened to me! My heart literally stopped for a second when I saw the email from Ottawa that was personally addressed to me, and then I was really disappointed when I found out what it really was about! Lol! This waiting period is so painful!

I don't know about the other schools, but I asked UofT directly and they said that clinical experience/volunteering would not have any influence on their admission decisions unfortunately.

No. At first I had misunderstood Western's statement, and I thought that they wouldn't accept references from SLPs at all, and so I lined up my current boss to be my professional reference and used her for all of the schools asking for professional references. I didn't realise until later that I could have still asked an SLP to serve as my professional reference. I am hoping that they don't see this as a bad thing!

I am currently taking the Child Development prerequisite for UofT and Western. Hopefully they don't penalize us for having a prerequisite in progress. Every school requires so many different prerequisites that I found it pretty much impossible to get all of them done before 4th year!

I think I remember reading that the GPA cut off last year was 3.77, but I could be wrong!

Hey! No I haven't received anything from UoftT either. From what I can tell from threads from previous years, UoftT doesn't send out emails to confirm our application, and they only email people their student numbers etc. when they offer admission. So I don't think we will hear from them until April 1st.

Congratulations! I also got mine this morning. Is anyone else extremely nervous for the MMIs?

I am sorry to hear that you aren't having a good experience at McGill! Are you still in the first year of their program? Anyways, I hope it gets better for you! I appreciate you giving us your feedback, cause these are the types of things we would never know without speaking to someone who is in the program.

Hey! My top two choices are probably Western and McGill. McGill used to be my top choice as well because I liked the idea of being able to get experience in French placements while still completing my graduate studies in English and I loved the idea of living in Montreal, but after learning how much focus McGill puts on theoretical learning, I think I am leaning more towards Western now. I like that Western has a pediatric focus (I would love to work for a school board in the future) and I really like that they have an on-sight clinic where you can do your first clinical placement. That being said, I still keep going back and forth between McGill and Western as my top choice. My choices after that would be McMaster, Toronto and then Ottawa. What are everyone else's top choices?

Hey! I am also getting really antsy, and I feel like this forum is the only thing keeping me semi-sane throughout this whole process! I would also love to hear about everyone's stats, so here are mine: Degree: I am currently completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Honours Cognitive Science of Language and a Minor in French Studies. GPA: My ORPAS sGPA and cGPA are 3.98 Volunteering: I have just under 60hrs of volunteering with SLPs and CDAs in various settings (47.5hrs in a speech clinic where I worked with a non-verbal child and an adult with an acquired brain injury; 3.5hrs in a hospital where I observed a videofluoroscopy performed on a stroke patient; 6hrs in a French elementary school with a CDA). I also have 24hrs of related volunteer experience where I helped immigrant elementary-aged children (many of them learning English as a second language) with their homework. References: I am kinda worried about my academic references, as although I had 5 courses with one of them, she gets asked to write 20+ references each year, so I am worried that her reference letter might be a bit cookie-cutter. And my second academic reference, with whom I only took 2 courses, is only a sessional prof, so I don't know how that will affect it. But, my professional reference is my current boss who has known me for over 8 years, so although it won't be SLP related, I think her reference will be pretty strong.

Nice stats! Do you mind explaining how McGill calculates GPA? Is it just that they use cGPA instead of sGPA, or is there something else to it? Thanks!

Update: I emailed to ask and apparently they no longer do the MMIs at Ottawa (which is a huge relief!) as they have replaced it with the CASper test and the language tests.

Does anyone know anything about Ottawa's MMI process (when they hold their interviews and when they send out their interview offers)?

Officially, I think they send them out March 2nd. But in last year's thread someone said that they received an MMI offer on February 19th. So hopefully we will hear from them soon!

That's nice to hear! Does anyone know if the other schools are receiving more or less applicants than previous years? It'll be interesting to see how covid affects the number of applicants because I can see it going both ways (having volunteer hours removed as a requirement for many schools vs the possibility that school may still not be in person by the fall, etc.).

Hi Wugs! From what I understand from last year's thread, there are people who get waitlisted for the MMI (they notify you if you are on the MMI waitlist), and if someone declines the MMI invite they will invite someone off of the waitlist.

Thank you CCSLP94 for this insight into your program! I think Western University is probably my top choice when it comes to SLP grad programs. I was just wondering, with covid are you still able to do your clinical placements in person or are you doing teletherapy right now/ did covid limit the amount of placements that were available to students? Thanks in advance!
