  1. Hi! I’m absolutely no expert, but honestly I think you’re going to have an extremely hard time getting into any programs without a undergrad in psych in counselling or clinical, as they are BEYOND competitive. Even in the UK, a friend and I both applied for these exact 1 year masters programs you are speaking about as international students from Canada. I had a 4.0 GPA in psychology, a publication and heaps of research experience including lab coordinator positions and got in. However my friend who also did the same undergrad as me, also with a 4.0 GPA, an undergraduate thesis and 3 RA positions did not get in. I’m not telling you this to burst your bubble, I just would have loved someone be realistic with me when I was applying because these programs are ridiculously hard to get into. I feel sorry for you, but honestly don’t even know what to suggest other than going back and getting a bachelors of psychology and gaining research experience. (I’m still trying to get into a counselling, clinical or social work degree in canada, this is my third application cycle with all of the above experience).
  2. Hi everyone! I’m wondering if there are any current counselling grad students in here who can help! Like I’m sure a lot of people are experiencing, it’s nearly impossible to get a “counselling related” job right out of undergrad. That being said, I’m wondering if anyone has taken counselling courses and had that help their application? I’ve been thinking about starting an online one at george brown, or completing the online series at Laurier. My hold up is that the fees for the Laurier one are like $2000 total, and I don’t want to do it if they don’t see it as an asset to my application anyways. Open to any advice/suggestions!
  3. Congrats! Did you get an email or was it on the portal? I still haven’t heard anything either way
  4. Me and a friend haven’t heard anything either!
  5. I’m also waiting for UNB. I emailed about a month ago and they said it took around 3 months from the date your application was received, but it’s been longer than that for me!
  6. Here is my response to my email asking if this info was true, and if we would be getting out money back.
  7. I emailed them today and heard back. Yes the program isn’t accepting this year. *Apparently* they did interview people for 2023 entry, but I’m not sure I really believe them lol, I think it’s just an excuse to not give people their application fee money back. But that last part is just my opinion!
  8. Hi did anyone apply to UNB MEd? Just wondering when we can expect results! Also saw a few people say that CFT at Guelph was cancelling interviews and I was wondering where y’all heard that? Thanks!
  9. Hi! just wondering if anyone knows how many ppl they accept approx each year to mcgill counseling (internship)? i haven’t gotten a rejection but also no acceptance and i know a few people have gotten them so i was just curious!
  10. Hi! I saw a few people posting McGill results in the results page. Has anyone heard from internship stream or just project stream? Thanks in advance ☺️
  11. Hi! I was hoping to hear from anyone who took a year or years off after their undergrad to gain more experience and improve their application for following years. What kinds of jobs did you get that were good for related experience and how did you find/get these positions? Thanks so much!
  12. Hi, thank you so much for the info! Just wondering if you had an interview for the internship stream when you applied? Thanks!
  13. Hi! I know 3 or 4 people put on the results page that they got interviews for mcmaster msc psychotherapy... do we think they have contacted all of their interviewees? I know the official deadline was only last Wednesday but I’m feeling discouraged since I haven’t heard yet...
  14. Just an FYI in case anyone didn’t see it, in the clinical psych forum someone said they received an interview invite for mcmaster psychotherapy so they are going out
  15. Hi, thank you so much for your reply! I did actually also apply to clinical programs as I was sort of split between doing counselling and clinical (because you know 6+ more years for clin is a lot!) but looking at the forum it seems very very unlikely I will make it in this year with the tough applicant pool. I think you’re totally right about favouring older applicants with a bit more experience in the field which is why I’m nervous because I really do not want to take a year off after undergrad, but I also understand how hard it is to get in without the extra year of experience. Crossing my fingers for you for Calgary!
  16. Hi everyone, just looking for some realistic advice! I’m just finishing up my undergrad in psychology (at Queen’s if it helps) and I applied to two counselling programs (McGill and McMaster) but I’m worried that I’m not a very strong applicant and was wondering if anyone who is maybe in a counselling program or knows more would be able to help? I just want to have realistic expectations about if I might get in or not! I have a 4 year GPA of 3.95 on a 4.0 scale, and have worked as a research assistant in 3 different psychology labs in undergrad. I’m also completing my honours thesis project in a clinical psychology lab. For this thesis project I have been doing clinical diagnostic interviews to diagnose participants with DSM-5 disorders for the purposes of the study. All of my references I applied with were academic from profs I’ve worked with. Other relevant experience: I’ve worked as a early childhood assistant at a daycare, taught dance classes and summer camps as well was was a counsellor at the national ballet school. I currently work in a doctors office as a medical receptionist as well. I’m really just wondering what my chances are of getting into a counselling program this year considering I only applied to two programs If anyone has any insight that would be great!
  17. Hi! Just wondering if anyone has heard from McGill Masters of Counselling or McMasters Psychotherapy?
