  1. oot oot I'm in too for MIA! Didn't even expect! No words on funding SIPA is the most expensive program for me so tough decisions ahead
  2. After seeing that post, I couldn't go to bed until 3 in the morning, and had a nightmare about refreshing my inbox crazy and getting the rejection letter. What an awesome way to start the weekend.
  3. Thank you so much! I never thought about military as a route. I am fluent in Korean, and I do have strong background in history. One thing that I concern is that I am 32 and might not be allegeable to join the military after Master's program.
  4. Hi guys, As the Fall 2021 admission decision cycle is reaching its peak, I now have some lists of schools to choose from and want to hear your opinion on IR programs. I got into American SIS ($), UoD Korbel ($$), UCSD GPS (no funding yet), GWU Elliot (w/o funding), and waiting for Columbia SIPA (but doubtful) I will be focusing on Asia and regional security (especially surrounding North Korea). Since my career goal is working at the State Department or DoD, I think Elliott and American SIS have an advantage in the location and networking. However, as a California resident, I get a huge discount on UCSD's tuition (about 3x cheaper than elsewhere even without funding), and I really enjoyed their seminars from Korea-Pacific Program last year. Any recommendation or feedback from alumni for either school in a similar career field as I am? I reached out to each school's career and academic advising, but I only got vague answers.
  5. Congrats to everyone who got in The result just came out for me and as I expected, got rejected, but it's not the end of the world¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If I get rejected from Columbia SIPA as well, then Elliot is my top choice
  6. Same here. But I’m just going to take you to take it easy and probably choose Elliott
  7. Oh I see. Guess Asians studies program in general are on the last place on the funding overall I didn't get any funding from them either, but got some from other programs not specific for "Asia oriented". Anyways congrats getting in to Georgetown!
  8. I guess I got rejected since I didn't get any letter from the program director. Guess the place where fund me the most will be my destination. BTW, how much did you get for Elliott? ?
  9. oot oot! that's great congrats you too!
  10. Just got an email from admissions office saying that "they have nominated my file for admission to GPS" I guess that means I got in?
  11. Oh wow cognates!!! What program did you applied if you don't mind. I applied for Asian Studies program btw
  12. I just got an email from Elliot school professor from the program I applied. Any idea on how to reply?
  13. I applied to MASIA program before January deadline and haven't heard anything yet. My application status is still the same and on their website, it said that the decision will be out by early March. So the waiting game continues...
  14. Program Applied To (MPA, MPP, IR, etc.): MA in International Affairs Schools Applied To: American SIS, Columbia SIPA, Georgetown, GW Elliot School, UCSD GPS Schools Admitted To: American SIS Schools Rejected From: None yet Still Waiting: SIPA, Georgetown, GW Elliot, UCSD Undergraduate Institution: Public ivy Undergraduate GPA: 3.7 for cc, 3.3 for upper-div Undergraduate Major: Political Science GRE Quantitative/Verbal/AW Scores: non taken Years Out of Undergrad (if applicable): 10 Years of Work Experience: 12 Describe Relevant Work Experience: Non directly relevant to IR. Strength of SOP (be honest, describe the process, etc): Somewhat dull because I wasn't too creative. I mainly focused on proposing my research thesis, and mentioned each programs strength and faculty members' background on developing my research and career projectile. As for personal addendums, I focused on my non-traditional experiences as TCK and perspectives from different experiences in the job market. Strength of LOR's (be honest, describe the process, etc): Pretty solid from two LORs from professors. Not to sure about the other one from my formal student - now friend who I tutored for 3 years. Other: I am a TCK and untraditional student. Also, I wasn't really thinking about IR as career until I took one of the classes from the professor who wrote me LOR as it is not a "traditional career choice for Asians".
  15. Although I submitted mine back in January 12 but I got an email saying my application is under review today. Also, they had a glitch saying one of my LOR is missing, but fixed a day after. Has anyone got the similar message? If so, how long does it take to hear the decision? Also, Anyone applying as a graduating senior? I am still in school and have to complete this semester to graduate, how would it work? Will it be provisional admission? Oh yeah, and any applicant who transferred from a community college? I am CCC transfer and I do have competitive GPA from my CC (3.8) but my upper div GPA is at 3.3... I know this doesn't look good, but do they see combined GPA or just upper divs?
