  1. Best of luck for UW! And Parsons too. If things work out, we might see each other in New York this fall!
  2. Are you already leaning towards Parsons though?
  3. That's exactly the dilemma. And I was hoping somebody here would help me on it. My motivation to go to SVA initially was its faculty and the fact that it has a lot of reach and provides good networking opportunities for its students. But in contrast, Parsons is way cheaper and I probably won't even have to apply for loan whereas I would've gone into considerable debt for SVA. So is the debt worth it for all the opportunities SVA provides? Or should I rather be debt-free? Also, another's question- SVA originally offered me 8k but when I requested for more, they brought it up to 32k (for both years combined). Do you guys think I can negotiate more now that I have Parsons in hand with a much better scholarship? Or is that just rude to ask since I've already requested once before?
  4. Hey. Parsons Fine Arts is out with their decisions. Just got an acceptance with 75% scholarship ✨✨✨
  5. Did anyone receive any mail from Parsons? Any acceptances/rejections from the Fine Arts Dept?
  6. Really? Because your offer seems more lucrative. Afterall you'd be getting half of the tuition off and 32k is still afterall only just 1/3rd of the tuition. So technically you're benefitting more. This is including the fact that the fine arts department doesn't offer RA or TA-ships, only campus jobs so even if I want, I can't reduce my costs more than this. Plus if you take those assistantships, they really add to your CV. I desperately wanted to work an assistantship too but unfortunately I won't get a chance to
  7. Fine arts. And merit scholarship. Sorry was your question only addressed to photo candidates?
  8. Just got a scholarship increment from SVA. It was originally 8k and now its 32k. Definitely attending SVA now that its affordable. Anyone else joining SVA here??
  9. Well I'll try. Fingers crossed. I'm still a little skeptical since SVA is a for-profit school so I doubt their financial packages will be good. Nevertheless I'll try my best
  10. I have 2 from MICA (mount Royal and Rinehart) with better scholarships. I also have an offer from Glasgow School of Art but without scholarship. I want to leverage the MICA scholarships to SVA but I don't wanna sound rude to them
  11. Just got a scholarship letter from SVA. But its way too low than what I expected or hoped. Tbh, at the rate of 4k/year, I'd never be able to afford the school. Does anyone know how I can ask them for more aid?
  12. Usually colleges send out acceptances within the span of a few days so you could wait for a day or two. If you're still anxious as to the admission timeline or results, you can contact Christopher Harring.
  13. What program did you apply to
  14. I got into MICA Mount Royal school with a scholarship of 10k/year. Also got into MICA Rinehart school with a scholarship of 12k/year. I have no idea if this amount is good or not? Does anybody have any thoughts? In any case I'm very very happy tho ✨✨✨
  15. Hi! I'm choosing between the two colleges as well. Which one did u finally choose?
  16. No SVA for you?
  17. I dont think there's a painting course at Parsons. Isnt it just a single fine arts interdisc. course?
  18. I had a very curious question for anybody who can answer. It seems that a lot of people here have been to big name schools such as Parsons, SVA, Pratt etc.(/any other big name school) in the form of undergrad/residencies etc. And quite a few people haven't had as good experiences as they'd hoped, especially in terms of faculty who weren't as enthusiastic or helpful or available as they should've been. However I've been told by people after I shared these above sentiments with that the case is different for MFAs and as disgusting as that sounds, many faculties although might not be paying as much attention to the UG programs, they will surely be more attentive to the PG ones since MFAs are usually supposed to be jumpstart platforms for artists and that PG courses are for obvious reasons taken more seriously by both the students and the faculties (As opposed to say, UG courses). I don't know how much of this is true and if anyone could provide any insight to this I'd be very grateful. I speak as an International student so I have no idea of how the MFAs are regarded in the West (as opposed to BFAs or other programs) but I do feel that PG students are usually taken more seriously by the teachers. P.S: If anyone finds my above sentiments distasteful, I want to respectfully let everyone know that I have virtually no idea how MFAs work in the West and how the "art world", of which America plays a crucial role, actually works. While I understand that many people want to do art for the sake of art itself and not its commercial aspect (a sentiment I really respect), I want to let everyone know the reality of International students (especially those from third world countries) like myself. Where I live, there is no art funding. Art education is REALLY frowned upon in our country and artists are usually likened to beggars and sometimes even treated as ones. From where I stand, the West seems more accomodating in terms of art. I do not want to be a millionaire, but I at least want to earn a decent living doing what I love. (Which is btw impossible here since most artists are paid around minimum wage- in fact we don't even have a concept of minimum wage. We live off whatever we can find and any job we can help in). This is not the life I want for myself. Fortunately, there is only one way to achieve this- to take on massive debt and study in the West. The problem again stands that, as an immigrant, the only way I can stay in America after my studies is by having a lucrative job or earning enough to file for visa extensions so as to not be deported. These things require networking and "hustling". And while I really really respect the sentiment of making art for the love of it, I'm forced to consider the ",dirty aspects of the art world" including network-making. I do not want to offend anyone here but I just want people to look at art education from the eyes of an immigrant because the sad truth will always be that as much as I want to make art for the sake of art, I could be deported anytime if I'm not a financial contributor to the country. I would be grateful if anyone could answer my questions above but please consider my perspective on this and my insistence on learning of "faculty connections" and "networking opportunities" that come with big name schools such as Sva or Parsons. I hope I haven't offended anybody. TL,DR: Pls Respond to Paragraphs 1 and 2.
  19. If anyone here has interviewed with Yale painting, could you tell me who all were in the interview?
  20. I did twice. Nobody has replied. So I've just planned to wait now for a few weeks or so since I was told in my interview that the acceptance calls usually arrive by 1st April. Now I don't know for what reason, I received mine way earlier in Feb but I'm still waiting till end of march at least to see how this all plays out. Afterall the interviewer did mention that the department gives merit scholarships which you don't have to apply for or do anything even
  21. Well umm I didn't receive the brochure. Maybe because of different departmental timelines? I've applied for Fine Arts
  22. Well that is very disheartening to hear esp. since I was really considering the Fine Arts program due to some big name faculties like Tsibi Geva, Laurel Nakadate, Kameelah Rashid, Jasmine Wahi etc (if you've even heard of them) In any case, would you or someone else happen to know the case with Parsons Fine Arts? Is it for-profit too? And are the faculty over there as callous?
  23. Well I understand you perfectly and I just wished there would've been more diversity in the sense if there could be more black or Hispanic people too because that wouldve been a more diverse experience; And I especially say this keeping myself in mind since I'm Asian too and would love to have a cohort with people from all kinds of backgrounds and cultures too. But yeah I'm definitely not as wealthy as these students and would def need some aid. Did the alum mention what percentage aid do they give out?
  24. Can you expand on the last part wherein you said it feels for profit? Does that mean they lack quality education? Or contrarily that they promote you a lot in their networks?
