  1. This is something I've also been giving a lot of thought to. I've decided on a gift card somewhere local that I can send via email. That way I don't have to worry about being a creep asking for home addresses lol. Now what kind of place, I'm not sure yet. I would normally do a restaurant or similar but I don't know everyone's comfort level with going out to eat or even doing takeout because of COVID. Basically, if you (or anyone else!) have any ideas, please share away!
  2. @acimova and @iamlia -- DMed both of you!
  3. This is me but with all my semi-ignored actual work I have to do piling up around me...
  4. I took a pretty large break between undergrad and grad, ironically because I graduated from college pretty soon after the economic fallout of 2008, and I thought admissions would be too competitive ?. In all fairness, it sort of worked out because I would be ended up pursuing a very different kind of research than I am invested in now but definitely didn't work out how I envisioned.
  5. I think that's a common theme this year, admissions processes going slightly differently. What's your subfield (if you don't mind me asking)? Hope your interview goes well!
  6. Same for me. I did look through the results page from over the years and it seems they tend to notify late (mid March ish) ??‍♀️

  8. Thanks. It's all good, though; still have some hope, I guess? Might be worth checking with Stony Brook, too, if you (like me) hate the limbo.
  9. I can't speak for Stony Brook but had the same situation with BU, where people got rejections and admits and I was just hanging out with nothing. Emailed them and they responded saying I was waitlisted.
  10. Finally heard from BU -- waitlisted. Glad to hear something ?‍♀️
  11. Just sent off an email. Such a bizarre practice. Congrats on your waitlist position btw!
  12. Glad you finally heard something! Did the email look personalized or more templated? Still nothing in my inbox...
  13. Another vote for R. It's also free, so huge plus (in my opinion).
  14. Thank you!! I'm with you. I want a rejection rather than silence (maybe? I don't know but silence is hard!) same. I wish schools had a standardized schedule for the whole process just like the April 15 commitment date. Like all programs have a Dec 15 deadline, Jan 15 interview (if they have them), and Feb 15 notification. That would eliminate so much stress and give us ample time to make decisions. I mean I'm obviously oversimplifying because I'm not at all involved with admissions and know nothing about the process but it's just nerve-wracking the way it's currently run.
