  1. ranked fourth on the waitlist for printmaking at UW-Madison
  2. I would also love advice on this for RISD specifically. I sent an email to my discipline's graduate program director early this week and still haven't heard back yet ? I just articulated that I would love to to go to RISD, but that my current financial package puts me in a difficult place to do, particularly in comparison to how much more I've been offered by other programs.
  3. has anyone heard back from UW-Madison? I interviewed but it's been radio silence since then.
  4. unofficially accepted to University of Iowa for printmaking ? has anyone been getting phone call requests from faculty members at the schools you were accepted to? I spoke to someone from RISD yesterday about my financial package and am talking to someone from iowa today. anyone have insight as to why they do this?
  5. hi @_redrabbit7! HUGE congratulations on your acceptance and presidential fellowship to RISD! I was wondering if you were told much about the nature of the presidential scholarship (how many people are awarded it/if all of them have been allocated yet?) I was accepted to RISD for printmaking but was offered very little money (a fellowship of $14,000 and a TA salary of $4,000). I was wondering if it would be unprofessional for me to ask my department's graduate program director about the presidential scholarship specifically, as I've already been accepted to 2 other schools that would cover my tuition entirely.
  6. accepting to RISD for printmaking last night at 10pm!! it was an email from the graduate program director though. haven't received anything officially from the school yet.
  7. I interviewed with RISD on friday morning for printmaking. They first reached out to me this past wednesday and offered me several times to choose from for the interview on friday and monday (today).
  8. hi @annaconda! as far as I know, that deadline is only for printmaking, but I'm unsure. I feel like there is still hope for you! which program did you apply for?
  9. just invited for an interview at RISD for printmaking!!
  10. in the email I got, they said that they haven't looked over the applications yet and won't start until a day or 2 from now, which makes me think we won't start to hear things at least until the start of next week. crossing my fingers for the both of us!!
  11. one of the professors at University of Iowa just reached out to me on instagram and email about my unfinished application! (but without the compliments lol)! I wasn't going to apply afterall and the deadline has passed, but they said I have a day or two to get my application materials in.
  12. just got an email about scheduling a specific date for my UW printmaking interview. can confirm that interviews started happening this week and will wrap up on Feb 11.
  13. hi all! a quick school response update. I was accepted the UMN via phone call last Tuesday and heard back from UW-Madison via email on Monday that my application had been "advanced to the next stage of the review process" and they would contact me soon to schedule an interview. I also applied to Rutgers and RISD (for printmaking) and haven't heard back yet.
  14. I applied to Rutgers too and noticed this question. I'm pretty sure it's just a data thing tbh, so they can do better advertising for their program and shit.
  15. hey @kaflake and @painting549! thanks for your responses ❤️ I asked my past professor and mentor about this, and she said that "having less than 20 images can give people the wrong idea. They say it can be up to 20 images, but I have seen fewer images weaken a candidate's chances. I think unless it says otherwise, last 5 years (with most work from past 3) is ok"
  16. hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not it reflects poorly to not include the max of 20 different pieces in your portfolio? feeling like maybe I should pair down, but the 10-20 range scares and confuses me.
  17. I would also think it would be good, because it shows that you're really interested in continuing your practice and taking advantage of the academic resources available to you, which is what grad school mfas are all about!
  18. transcript question: so, after getting my BS, I held 2 staff positions at SAIC and at bucknell university, which gave me the opportunity to take classes for free at both institutions. I took 1 class at SAIC, and 2 at bucknell. do y'all think it would be helpful for me to include these 2 additional transcripts in my grad applications, even though I wasn't a full-time student by any means? would they even accept these kinds of transcripts?
  19. Hi @kaflake! I'm a printmaker too! also -- I've been the brandeis several times because my ex went there, so it always makes me excited to spot alumni ? I'm interested in applying to wisconsin and tennesee, as well! I was considering arizona state for a bit, but decided to apply to university of arizona (the tuscon one) instead. I was also considering Rutgers, VCU, and Tyler, but ruled them out because they're only 2-year programs.
  20. Hi @Brittany0Kay! happy to see another printmaker on here. I'm completely with you on the never ready, imposter syndrome feelings. taking up the museum job sounds like it would be beneficial to me. I'd love to know what kind of print you do, where you applied in 2019 and what you learned from the programs and experience if you're down to share!
  21. I'd love to see your work as well! I just DMed you~ Cara Benedetto is the person I was referencing. Her bio here says she studied at Tamarind, but I also see now that she's only an assistant professor -- does that mean she doesn't work with MFAs?
  22. Hi @katfude! I'm so sorry to hear about your negative experience at UMass Amherst. Do you think you could tell me a bit more about it? What you've said is making me feel like maybe I shouldn't apply after all.
  23. thanks so much for this quick and detailed response! what you mentioned about conceptual programs vs. narrative art making is something I've been thinking about a lot as I go through this process. My work is pretty representational and also involves a lot of storytelling, which is what turned me away from UCLA (on top of the cost of living in California). I'm not surprised to hear that about VCU, but I did have my hopes because I saw that someone on their faculty is Tamarind trained?
  24. Hell yeah! I am HERE to keep this printmaking takeover train going @slickjaketheruler! I work primarily in lithography, screenprinting, and relief. been putting a lot of energy into translating print into sculpture and animation atm. I'm only financially capable of applying to programs that will fully-fund me with a stipend for assistantships. I've also been battling a lot lately with whether or not I should bother applying to 2-year programs, since I feel like it just isn't enough time. Interested to hear your thoughts on that. I'd love to hear about the financial aid that was offered to you at SAIC, SMFA at Tufts, MECA, and SUNY purchase. UW Madison, U of Tennessee - Knoxville, UMass Amherst, VCU, and Rutgers are also on my list, so I'd also love to hear about what interests you in each of those programs.
