PhD English - 2024 Admissions

I think it went well! Hard to know. A couple of years ago, I applied to a few Performance Studies programs (Columbia, Northwestern, Brown, Tufts, UChicago). Didn't work out for me then, for good reason. I think English/Rhetoric is more conducive to my work. In any case, I am familiar with Dr Jackson's work! Hoping this season goes well for you- 309 replies

Don't! the goal is to get them in by the deadline—that is sufficient, and commendable. We're applying to study things we care about. The procedures to get there are, ultimately, naught but administerial hoopla.- 309 replies

waiting to hear back about the graduate assistantship! what about you?

Hello! Anyone applied/plan on applying? I submitted prior to the Jan 15 deadline and am waiting to hear back.

Got my rejection from Brown today. A nice message, but it stings. Congrats to PSY2! I'm still waiting on all my other schools, but I think that's a good sign I haven't made it to the interview stage. A part of me is still hopeful, but another is already planning for next year's cycle.

From personal experience, the NYU program is truly amazing, and any chance of increasing your odds for their PhD is worth taking! They told me that there's some financial support available for MA students—up to (on very rare occasions) full tuition support, and a variety of other, partial scholarships. I bet the costs still spiral (NYC livin'), so I just couldn't bring myself to apply. Hope you get in though :)) And good luck for all your other apps—they're all such great schools! Now I'm back to stressing... every day of waiting feels like a week. Edit: I just heard back from Columbia and their list of interviews will only be determined near the end of the month.

Hey! I applied to Columbia's program too! I wonder if they've started sending out requests for interviews—kinda bummed since requests have historically gone out as early as Jan 5. I'm staying hopeful for the time being. A few more days and I'll be forced to come to terms with a rejection (it's all so competitive!). I also applied to the PS programs at Northwestern, Brown, UChicago (via CMS), and am putting the finishing touches on my Tufts app. What about you?

Hi everyone! Since I can't seem to find a thread for people applying this year, here's something to get the ball rolling I'm trying my luck at five programs, all PhDs, in and around the East Coast/Midwest. Currently finishing up my undergraduate degree in Theater, and hope to get started with graduate school right after. Finger's crossed though I have no clue how this year will be after the incredibly competitive 2021 cycle. A lot of the usual suspects are taking applications this time round, which is a relief! How's deadline season going for y'all?
