  1. You applied last cycle, right? I think I remember you. How is this current cycle treating you? I've received an invite to interview with Rutgers. Still waiting 3 other programs.
  2. Based on a Forum from last year, it looks like Northwestern sent out invitations for interview around this date last year:
  3. Got it. Peace of mind you actually need while doing the PhD. In this case, funding is everything. Michigan seems to be a great program. I know some folks from there. Not too familiar with the program at UCSD, but again, I'm just starting to get familiar with Ethnic Studies.
  4. @jpbends - thanks for the reply. You have two good options tho - Michigan is a great department (I'm not familiar with UCSD). Congrats btw! It's Hawaii your top choice?
  5. Sorry for that big text - I hope it made sense.
  6. Also - I might be wrong, but I think there's a possibility to use the MA credits at NYU if I'm accepted at a PhD program within GSAS.
  7. I'm pivoting from History to Literature and Media Studies (with emphasis on Queer Studies). There's a lot of things in the cultural studies spectrum that I was never exposed doing my studies in Brazil - and some, if not most of them, are very specific from American academy. So the main reason why I want to complete a second PhD is because I need training in an area I want to pursue and was not available (still isn't) when I was in college and grad school in Brazil). On top of that - applying for a teaching position job with non-American credentials are really hard, no matter how good your work is. I published my Masters and PhD in book format. Have more than five peer-reviewed articles published. Have teaching experience for undergrads (and middle school in the US). Also - when I look at History departments in the US I don't see myself in them. The kind of work I used to do in History departments in Brazil is closer to what some people do in other departments in the US, none of them History departments. I also want to explore alternative careers outside of academia - that's why I think a Master would suffice. In the end, it's all about the network and connections we make . I've been doing the work independently, reading, researching, trying to write, etc. But without a community to back you up and give you feedback is not only lonely, is also not that productive. This all might sound bs, or whatever, but I really believe that it would make a difference for what I wanna do.
  8. Same. But I also wish they kinda recommend my application to their MA. I already have a PhD in History from Brazil, and I guess a master would fit for what I wanna do.
  9. Just found out about this thread - although been chatting with @joshualuo7 on the result's board every now and then. Just saw 2 NYU rejections on the board from yesterday. Still waiting to hear from them.
  10. Hi @GRADSPN1 - Congrats!!!! In my opinion, I'd only choose Cuny if the program was my first choice and I really really wanted to go there. I live in Manhattan and the cost of living is really high. You'd probably need to comute from your place to Cuny. It can be stressful for some, but it's definitely a challenge worth pursuing if you're up for the task.
  11. This is such amazing news! And I'm sure more good new are coming your way!!! Congratulations!
  12. Had my interview yesterday at Hopkins (Modern Languages and Literatures). More like a conversation and general interview questions.
  13. Hi - do you mind sharing when did you receive an invite to interview at Cornell?
  14. If you applied on 1/13, I think it is still a little earlier to hear from them.
  15. I have no idea! Where did you apply for Complit? I applied at Stanford and Northwestern. Romance languages at other universities.
  16. Hi - good luck with the waiting list. I'm sure everything will work out! If you don't mind, can you tell us when is your interview at Northwestern? @GRADSPN1 had her interview this week (I guess on the 19th?)
