I'm striking out, and need some advice....

Hi there, Generally PhDs take about 3 years to complete in the UK. That's the general rule anyway. I've never been to Aberdeen, but I do like other parts of Scotland I've been to. Good luck!! -
Fingers crossed we hear some good news! Good luck to everyone!!

Hi Bob101, I applied the first week of November, and was asked to submit an additional essay in December. Haven't heard back since. I think it's a bad sign! I did hear that several others were accepted in March though, who are currently in the PDDE MPhil now. I only applied for the MPhil, since they don't admit students straight to the doctoral degrees I don't think, unless they have a Master's already. When you were notified, did you receive an email directing you to the Self service site? I wonder if I should call the Admissions BGS and inquire, or probably just wait it out! Which MPhil did you apply for? Are you going to go?

well i hope that you hear some good news Educ! I should call in, but I'm too nervous! Was she referring to all programs when she said that all acceptances would be out by next week, or the Human Dev program only? Thank you and GOOD LUCK!!
-
Thanks, Waw! I submitted my application in November and was asked to submit an additional essay in mid-December. If I still haven't heard anything, I'll try to call the BGS in mid-March, but I'm nervous!
-
Educ, did you call in or email today to find out? aaaah!
-
I applied for an MPhil in Education at Cambridge, but still haven't received a decision. Is anyone else in the same boat? I am thinking I won't hear until around mid-March or so, but the wait is certainly driving me nuts.

I think that's a good idea. I called Stanford to ask that, and they said they couldn't tell me anything. I still haven't heard back from UCLA, but am preparing for a rejection. Did you receive an email directing you to the website? Or did you just log-in and see a rejection there? I just checked and nothing has been posted yet, which means I'll probably get it later today. uh-oh. Keep your head up. I know this is depressing, but at least you know tons of people applied and that certainly the spots are limited. If I am not happy with my decisions, I think I will consider re-taking the GRE this year, and re-applying for next year. A college counselor told me that my SOP was strong and I know I had good letters of recc......

I'm so sorry to hear that Elbee. Do you think you'll reapply next year? I haven't heard anything yet, so I'm trying to stay positive!
-
Congrats DB!!!! I'm still waiting. Good luck to everyone else still waiting to hear back!
-
Hi Educ2011, I think it's awesome that you have called in though, because honestly I can't face it. I do hope we hear back soon though. I am driving my roomates crazy!

I emailed them a couple of days ago to inquire about my residency status, and have not yet heard back about that. I only received the general automated email back in response, as yet. Maybe I should call to ask about my application status? I'm just too nervous....the possibility of being rejected on the phone just sounds too much!

I saw someone just posted a rejection in the results section for the POME concentration. They emailed and were told that they were not one of 14 people recommended for admission. Apparently notifications of acceptances have already been sent out for this concentration. not sure about other programs though. aaaaaaaah!!! the wait is driving me completely nuts.

Congrats hurrah! Did you get an unofficial email from a professor, or did you receive official email? I haven't heard anything from Berkeley yet! When did you hear? Well done! Hope Harvard comes through for you!!
-
Saw a HGSE admit for Human Dev. and Education. If you're out there, please post your stats! Thanks and CONGRATS!!

HI nanducket, sure! I applied for the Ed, Culture and Society PhD program back in November. I didn't get an email, just checked my application status, and there was a link that said "decision available" or something, and then the rejection letter was there. Hope this helps! Good luck!
-
hurrah, which program did you get accepted to at Berkeley? Congrats!!!

I just checked my application status online and saw the rejection letter posted there. I did not receive an email telling me to check the website. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting. My letter was dated today, Feb 21st. Not bummed, just glad I know now!
-
Yes, I got the same email back in November, but when I checked the admissions' blog, it stated that acceptances had gone out by now, so I figured I got rejected. Also, the PhD applicant weekend was early Feb too.....again, there might still be hope, but I know it's a longshot for me. http://penngseadmissions.blogspot.com/search/label/Admissions

Okay, so I did steal this idea from humanprovince in the Political Science thread, but only because I think it's a great idea. What are you reading now, in preparation for grad school in the fall? Some books in my to-read pile: Cultivating Humanity- Nussbaum Age of Empires- Hobsbawm Age of Extremes- Hobsbawm Discipline & Punish- Foucualt (re-read!) Thanks everyone!
