  3. Hi everyone! Just curious if anyone else here has applied to Cambridge for Fall 2011 in Education. I applied for an MPhil in Politics, Development and Democratic Ed., and have not yet heard back. Good luck to everybody!
  4. Plan B is definitely to re-apply, (make some money to afford the application fees!), then maybe Plan C is law school......i have no idea....
  5. Mojingly, hearts! I wasn't sure if it was "Professor" or "Person" of interest.....aaaaaaah!!
  6. I'll be 27! Great idea for a thread Peanut!
  7. Hi, I think the official word is 28 days, or roughly a month. They give you that time to get your affairs in order. As someone whose work visa in the US was not renewed, I know a little about it! PM me if you'd like more info! Good luck!!
  8. Hi Triedgold, I also applied to Cambridge for an MPhil in Education. Which program did you apply to? I applied for the PDDE route. When did you hear back? I haven't heard yet and am getting anxious. I think that the MPhil sounds great, but I think I would evaluate what you really hope to gain from getting a third Masters, essentially, especially since it's a huge chunk of change! Congratulations on your acceptance and I hope you hear more good news soon from the other schools!
  9. Have you heard back yet? I also applied to Cambridge for an MPhil, but in a different field (Education) and haven't yet heard back. Good luck!
  10. Good luck! Let us know when you hear back!
  11. Has anyone heard anything yet?
  12. Where else did you both apply? Just curious
  13. I wonder if that means that all Education PhD acceptance letters have already gone out. I'm going to stay positive!!!
  14. I am currently waiting to hear back from more programs, but during my application process in the fall, I spoke with a professor who told me she was on the admissions commitee. We definitely had a great conversation, and she asked if I wanted to work on a research project with her, which sounds promising. I haven't heard back yet, so I can't say that it definitely helps, but I do think that it shows dedication and demonstrated interest in the school/program/faculty member. I would recommend contacting professors of interest for sure. If anything, it gives you a better, clearer idea of what they're working on, how many students they advise, class size etc. If they don't respond, maybe you're better off not being there anyway! That's my logic anyway! Trying to stay positive throughout this whole thing! I threw down the cash and flew out to visit 2 schools and met with several professors as well. I haven't heard back from those places yet. I'll let you know! You want to be in a department that you feel supported in, working with an advisor that you (ideally) get along with and are interested in their research etc. Hope this helps!
  15. Hi everyone! I have been admitted to 2 programs so far, and want to contact my advisors to introduce myself, ask more about what they are currently working on and also ask about funding. How can I politely inquire about funding, if funding was not mentioned at all in my acceptance letters? I want to wait until i've heard back from other programs, before I accept any offer. How do I phrase that?! Any pointers would be really helpful! Thank you!
  16. Berkeley is awesome. I really like it. There's tons of great food and lots of things to do: music, art, Tilden park, book stores etc. As the poster above mentioned, Moe's is a huge, used bookstore on Telegraph, a few blocks from campus and it's great. North Berkeley is a lot quieter, and further up Shattuck, there are other great restaurants too. rent is a bit more pricey in Berkeley, than in Oakland, but if you look on craigslist, you should be able to find a good housing situation! Congrats on your acceptance!!
  17. If you know who your advisors are, I think it would be OK to touch base with them and mention that you are still waiting on your official letters of acceptance to come, as well as information about funding. That way, it will give you a chance to connect about other things, and not just about funding. Which programs did you get accepted to? PhDs or Masters? and Congrats!!! I also have been accepted to 2 schools, but officially, and have not yet heard anything about funding. I am going to contact my potential advisors soon.
  18. Thank you both! I think more information on funding is still to come, and I am definitely going to try and plan a visit, before deciding! Thanks for posting the links to the other Minn threads here too! I'll keep you posted on where I decide to go! Thanks!
  19. Hi everyone! I was accepted to U Minnesota, Twin Cities for a Culture & Teaching PhD in December, and just wondered if anyone else was accepted for Fall 2011, and if you had any thoughts about the department or university in general. I've heard really great things about the Ed school, and also about the Twin CIties, but haven't been out there yet myself. Thanks!!
