  1. Alright, since I'm mostly through the waiting process at this point I figured I'd post this info for future applicants lurking this thread as much as I was past years'! This was my 2nd application cycle and I applied to painting programs. Here are my admissions results & the dates which I heard from schools: Cranbrook - interview invite sent 2/10, acceptance (via email) 2/23 SUNY Purchase - interview invite sent 2/8, acceptance (via phone) 2/23 Boston University - interview invite sent 2/8, acceptance (via email) 3/7 Artcenter - interview invite sent 3/12, waitlisted (via portal) 3/13 .. interview scheduled for 3/14 New York Studio School - interview invite sent 3/7, withdrew application SAIC - rejected 2/8 Columbia - never heard, presumably rejected
  2. I just got an interview request from Artcenter tonight which is strange since I feel like it’s been weeks since most of you have interviewed. I wonder if I’m being interviewed for the waitlist? Also I hope this gives some solace to those of you still waiting to hear back… my interview is scheduled for next Tuesday
  3. I am assuming they have rolling admissions — the website says “January 5th is the priority deadline to be considered for both admission and scholarship, however applications will continue to be accepted on an ongoing basis until programs have filled. Applicants are encouraged to apply early in order to ensure timely consideration.”
  4. I’d assume it means b.) ranked #1
  5. This was last year, but I interviewed with Arkansas painting in early February (2022) and then I heard nothing from them until I got a rejection letter in my email inbox in MAY. The only reason I knew I was waitlisted was because I called to ask about the status of my application in April since I’d heard nothing.
  6. Thank you! I will try the same approach!
  7. Ok question — say you’ve got a school that wants you to accept or decline their offer within 2 weeks or you’ll be moved to the waitlist, but you’re still waiting to hear back from other places — how would you deal? Ask the schools you’re waiting to hear from about their admissions timelines? Beg for an extension? Just get moved to the waitlist?
  8. Also, I know that each department has a different timeline. I’m sure you’ll hear very soon!!
  9. I received an acceptance from cranbrook (painting) yesterday morning after interviewing last week. It was an unofficial notice from the AIRs and they said official letters from admissions would be coming next week.
  10. Also heard from SUNY Purchase (to schedule an interview) today!
  11. replying to myself, but heard back from BU today for an interview! still waiting to hear from Artcenter, SUNY Purchase, Cranbrook & Columbia
  12. Anyone happen to hear from Boston University (painting) yet?
  13. Hello all! I am wrapping up all of my applications and just thinking about how the next couple of months will play out. I applied and was waitlisted to two schools last year, so this is my second round. As it approaches mid-January, I'm reminded of the amount of anxiety I felt last year during the whole interview process, waiting for admissions decisions, and then praying to get off of waitlists (which did not happen). I'm wishing you all luck, and hoping that this year I can stay calm & present in my current circumstances without getting too caught up on the future. While I really hope things work out this time, I'm trying to be open to the idea that if it is meant to happen, it'll happen.
  14. Congrats on the interview! I’m assuming every school is quite different, but from my experience with interviews (for painting) last year here are some common questions they asked. why do you want to go to grad school? Why this school in particular? who are your influences? what books are you reading? tell me about this specific work in your portfolio. And they always end with “do you have any questions for us?” So I found it helpful to have a couple of specific questions about the school on hand. Good luck!!
  15. I seriously wouldn’t worry about those details! The lower case title could be assumed to be intentional. And I think the captions aren’t a huge deal, as long as you have solid connected explanations in your artist statement, they are somewhat superfluous! Good luck and take a breath now!
  16. Excellent comment! The main goal as an artist is to have the time, space, motivation and freedom to continue making your work, right? The question of making successful art IS the question. A lot of career stuff is up to chance, luck, connections - things outside of our control - but our ability to do the work is within our control. I think it is really helpful in such a fickle world to maintain that internal motivation. I've been out of undergrad for awhile too and also in a similar sized city. There is plenty of space for a lot of people to make their lives as artists.
  17. I can speak to all of this. This is year two of applying for me. I was waitlisted to several programs last year but didn’t get in anywhere. I attended a grad program a few years ago and ended up leaving halfway through my first year (for several reasons, but a major one was that it didn’t feel worth it for me and wasn’t as challenging as I hoped). So, I feel you on wanting to be pretty certain about getting in somewhere, but after already going to a program I didn’t like, I feel somewhat uncompromising about wanting to go somewhere more ideal for me. Very nervous about applying again though!!
  18. Off of the top of my head I think Oklahoma University has a fully funded MFA that’s maybe lesser known. Some UT schools and UMass schools too. I’d look for big state schools that don’t heavily advertise as being fully funded programs but do indeed offer grad teaching assistantships and stipends. I know USF and UArk but I think those would fall into the more competitive category since they accept few students.
  19. I know some programs let you indicate whether you would like your portfolio considered by another department. That’s awesome though! Maybe you’ll find an even better fit.
  20. How is everyone who has been waitlisted holding up?
  21. I’ve emailed admissions and all they said was by the end of March. I guess I could email the profs I interviewed with but I’m worried that’s not appropriate idk!
  22. Haha right?? I’m hoping for an update too … I keep looking at my clock and refreshing my email like “a few hours left”. I hope to hear before the weekend. Seems so late with many schools already requiring studio deposits etc.
  23. A school’s admissions office told me decisions would be made by the end of March and I still haven’t heard from them. I interviewed 2 months ago and I’m trying hard to not get too anxious about it! Man I just want to know either way.
  24. I am also on the cranbrook waitlist and hoping there is hope! Good luck to you too!
  25. Anyone else still waiting to hear from programs they interviewed with months ago?
