I don't think there's such a thing as the "Iowa model" for workshops... Different professors dictate workshops differently. I'd say look at the faculty (visiting and permanent) and see whose work you're excited by, and bear in mind the different cohort sizes

I applied to a few programmes last year and got into two that weren't fully funded. So I saved up some money and moved to Mexico city for a few months to spend my time reading and writing and generally having fun. I reapplied to MFAs, added a few unis to my list, got into Iowa. I also proved to myself that I can write every day without going mad or picking up a hard drug addiction, and that I in fact enjoy this lifestyle more than any other

they don't notify waitlisted students afaik, one might just get a random call in April if they're admitted off the waitlist

official letter of acceptance from Iowa came in yesterday!

Iowa is 21.2k + 4.7k summer stipend (I'm an international student but I believe this is the same for everyone :))

yes, I was told I was only the 4th person to be notified. More acceptances should come this week

Can't believe it's less than 10 days until April 15th! My anxiety is killing me, but since it hasn't already, I'm sure I can fend it off for a few more days...

One person got off the waitlist for poetry and another for fiction. I'm in the same position as you but for fiction, what I did was email Terri to ask how many people had already accepted their places. Not that this will make any difference but at least it took away some of my anxiety! Wishing you all the best

I'm in a similar position to yours so I feel you! First time applying, waitlisted at Syracuse and only got into Columbia (which I can't afford) - I know it's tough but we have to stay strong these last two weeks! Best of luck to you
