  1. Hopefully you get into one of your 2 waitlisted programs. The fact that you even made the waitlists means you had a very competitive application. Especially for your two programs. For many schools, it seems like the number of applicants has been trending upwards and the number of available slots trending downwards, making your wait list a bigger accomplishment than you probably realize. Applying again next year is an option. But hopefully it won't come to that. You can also try calling the DGS and getting their impressions on your chances of getting in. Not sure how much they can reveal, but it's worth a shot. From what I can tell (based on my limited understanding of the wait list process), it is just a matter of waiting for admitted students to decide whether they will enroll or not. If anybody understands this process better, please offer some thoughts. Good luck
  2. You directly quoted somebody who SPECIFICALLY STATED he/she was waitlisted. By definition, that means that person was told they were wait listed. If you truly have no "skin in the game" (your words), then why are you reacting so emotionally without any apparent purpose? If you just want to vent, then please spare us.
  3. More importantly, we're all feeling the pressure. Be sure you understand the situation correctly, and communicate in a manner that does not come across as a rant. For starters, you read the NYU communication incorrectly. What do you have to offer people in our situation, other than an emotional rant? Are you truly trying to help people? As an older PhD applicant who has served as a senior leader in large organizations, I will tell you that these traits matter. Quite frankly, your posts are kind of annoying....and they will come across that way to people who may one day serve on hiring panels in the organizations you hope to join.
  4. This is largely out of the school's hand. If anything, the issue is students declining offers they know they will not accept. I'm not sure how much more "useful" schools can be in communicating this. In the case of NYU, they already communicated what you suggested they should.
  5. I recently declined my offer for Ohio State (PhD, IR subfield). Hope that helps someone on the wait list. I would urge others to decline offers as soon as possible if they know they won't be attending. This will help out those of us on waiting lists.
  6. Same here. I received an email but there's still no official portal update. Georgetown's Open House is this Friday (March 18th). Wait listed applicants are invited. Unfortunately, this means that if you haven't heard from anybody at Georgetown, the news is probably not good. Good luck to everyone!
  7. I recently received an email saying I was on Georgetown's waitlist, but still no official update on the portal. It seems like Georgetown is still processing applications from what I can tell. Since we are entering March, I'd ask everyone to decline offers if you don't intend to accept in order to give those on the waitlist a chance to accept. I recently started doing that for schools I have definitively ruled out. Good luck everyone.
