  1. I have a friend who also was invited to interview. My impression is that they only take people they have interviewed. Decisions will be after the third week in February then.
  2. I'll be heading to Iowa in the fall. Second on the request for housing suggestions!
  3. I don't know if you were interested in the MA acceptance or the PhD ones, but I posted the MA one yesterday. It was just a standard email from a communications prof, without much information and definitely not to a group. Hope that's helpful!
  4. I actually turned down my MA spot. I have a couple other offers I like better, for various reasons. Good luck! I hope it works out for you.
  5. I couldn't go, since I'm currently far from home. But yeah, it was scheduled for this past weekend.
  6. so I heard from USC today. They took me for an MA, which was nice, but I'm guessing it's unfunded. Anybody else get that email or know more about the department? Sort of feels like rejection light. Speaking of rejection, are the Berkeley or Brown admits around anywhere? (I would love to hear about your interests.) I saw the lone post for Brown a few days ago, so I'm figuring it's off the list. It seems strange that historically all their admits are in February and their rejections in March. I know a lot of schools are like this, but doesn't it seem kind of mean to make everyone wait so long to be rejected? Hope everyone is hanging in there! Congrats on UCSD and Indiana, curiousgeorge!
  7. I'm not in communication, but I went through a similar situation. I checked the grad college's website about the fellowship and it listed an offer of admission from the department as one of the materials required for the dept to submit in order for the grad college to consider the fellowship application. It may vary by school, but it could mean you're in. At the very least you are a strong candidate, so congratulations!
  8. I'm not sure interviews are always about an application being unclear. That's what I thought going into my first interview, and I got ready to clarify my research interests. But it was really more about talking about the program and what was different about that particular school, and they didn't seem to have many questions about my SOP or WS. I think it varies from department to department. Normally, I think it would be a bad sign. But since they already know you, maybe they just wanted to meet other applicants they weren't sure about. I bet we overlap on some schools. Good luck and congrats on the acceptance!
  9. that sounds really interesting. i only have my BA, so my interests are not completely set, but gender in american cinema post WWII mostly. where are the people who posted on the results page about UCSB? i logged into my account but no decision for me yet. thanks! i'm really excited about starting school in the fall. i didn't quite believe it would happen. good luck!
  10. I'm so glad to see there are a few more of us out there. I applied to: Berkeley-Rhetoric, film track Brown- Modern Culture and Media Iowa- Film Studies Northwestern- Screen Cultures Pitt- French/Film Studies Santa Barbara- Film and Media Studies USC- Critical Studies UT Austin- Film Studies Wisconsin, Madison- Film So many different department names, I don't even quite remember all of them. So far I've been accepted to Madison, interviewed with Pitt, and got an invitation to Northwestern's weekend. What kind of television stuff do you do kwagner? I'm on the film end, but I might do some tv stuff in the future. I wouldn't worry if you haven't heard from Madison. I've only talked to people specifically in film, so I would expect the decisions are done by subsection. Let's keep each other updated!
  11. I would second that the REA books are bad. I did 6 or 7 of the practice tests from an REA book and was averaging somewhere around 1100, because the questions are poorly written. On the actual GRE I got 780V/720Q.
