  1. Generally in this case you accept the scholarship, but how much of it you get as "extra" money will depend on your University, department, and supervisor. Basically, one of three things can happen: You get your award money but you no longer get any stipend. This is ok if you win a large award (i.e. CGS D or Vanier), but is not so great if your scholarship ends up being basically the same amount as your stipend already was. In that case, you get the prestige of the award but no extra money. You get your award money plus a reduced stipend. I think that this is fairly common. Basically you end up getting some bonus over what you made before, but not the full combination of your scholarship + a standard stipend. You get your full award amount + standard stipend. This is the dream but I think pretty rare in practice. Your supervisor probably already has a way of dealing with this, but things can also operate on a case-by-case basis, so you'll have to discuss with them to see where you'll end up.
  2. Apparently it's usually in mid-June, but last year they didn't send them at all. If you don't have anything by July I would suggest writing them and they should send you the ranking information via email (this is what I did last year.)
  3. They used to send them out by mail at some point in the summer, but they didn't send them at all last year. I ended up sending an email to schol@nserc-crsng.gc.ca September 1st and got a response about a week later. You don't get too much information, but you do get the following: # of applicants in your committee Research ability and potential: Score: X/6 Rank: X Relevant experience and achievements obtained within and beyond academia: Score: X/6 Rank: X Overall: Score: X/6 Rank: X I think both components are weighted equally; the overall score ultimately decides your ranking.
  4. Oh shit I got a PGS D! Anyone facing their first rejection, there is still hope for you, I finished 148 out of 165 in my committee (194) last year. I'll share some of the changes I made probably in a day or two (I owe it to the people in this forum who did the same thing last year), but I can quickly say that the comments from PNW_ on page 14 of last year's thread reeeeaaaaalllly helped me out :
  5. Almost 7 Eastern time and nobody's received an email, I doubt that things will be coming out today. At 2 points today I actually saw what looked like results in the "PGS D/CGS D" section of my extranet portal for students who are not me... (the link text was their email address, when I clicked it I got an "Access denied" message). It was really weird and leads me to think they might be having a problem with their systems. I hope it doesn't delay the results if so.
  6. The link to the extranet is https://influence2.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/ I could log in about 15 minutes ago (results weren't up yet), but now I'm getting a "403 forbidden" message. If you don't already have an account, you could try the "I forgot my password" with the email address you used for your application, but I'm not sure if the accounts are already created or if they make them right before they send out the emails.
  7. The NSERC extranet where results are communicated is a different site entirely than the application portal, so you won't get any early news by checking back on your application. In fact, my rejected application from last year still shows the "Received" status in the application portal. Even once the emails start sending out, it can be a couple of (nervewracking) hours before you get your result. Last year mine rolled in around 8:00 PM Eastern time. Unfortunately there's no real way to know anything until you receive that email, so try to stay strong until then!
  8. This is my 2nd time trying, I feel a lot better about my application overall than I did last year. I'm also less nervous than last year, maybe because I've lived through one rejection already so I know I'll survive if it happens again haha.
  9. I was expecting mid-June based on last year's thread, but now it's almost August and still no word. I've already started revamping my application for this Fall, but it would be very useful to actually have some guidance on what needs improving...
  10. Thanks for sharing! I got flat-out rejected with 1 first-author, 2 second author, 2 third author papers and 4 conference presentations + 2 posters. My undergrad grades are trash, M.A.Sc grades are ok (3.56/4.00) and Ph.D grades are perfect, so I'm curious to see where I ended up ranking. I also have 2 years experienice working as a research associate between my master's and Ph.D, but have no major scholarships (see trash undergrad grades). For next year's application I'll have another first-author paper and conference presentation, and will have finished my Ph.D. coursework with a 4.00/4.00 GPA. I'm also be paying a lot more attention to my language and writing style as suggested, and will give more guidance to LoR writers. We'll see if that's enough to bump me up a little higher, and if not I will just blame it on my research subject not being sexy enough hahaha.
  11. Still waiting... every time my phone vibrates I have a mini heart attack.
  12. This will be my committee, interesting to know that they're already finished. That said, I don't expect to see results a day before April 25th (28 weeks after October 17th, assuming they post all results around the same time). Also, his follow-up tweet is worth reading for the ~60% of us who won't receive anything:
