2023 Canada Admissions SLP thread

After having a think, I wonder if *this* year might actually be an aberration...Two friends of mine, both in honours and both 4th years, are actually taking another year to finish their degrees. The pandemic messed them up and need another year to complete. I bet they aren’t the only ones out there experiencing this. -

There are so few people here and even fewer asking/responding questions. I wonder if that means that apps are way down this year, compared to other years. If I check 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, there was way more going on in those areas. Hmmmmmmm.... -

Thx. I just wish they used the same language as each other. There is no “Part 2” listed on the orpas site, so it just makes me second guess myself. I had zero room in the soi for volunteer info. Hoping “Part 2” is sufficient for them. Ugh. -

For U of T... the second section in the SOI...where it says "The second section of the Statement of Intent is a summary of volunteer experiences and should list: Volunteer experiences in the field of speech‑language pathology and/or audiology in point form, including dates, duration, total hours, populations, and the nature of activities in which the applicant participated; and Other relevant volunteer experiences, including dates, duration, populations, and activities." Is THIS part of the 500 ish words?? I cannot locate another "section" to upload a part two to. Help please. I see on the orpas site that there is a volunteer section, but it's very prescribed only allowing particular information. In the description section, there are just a few lines available to write what you did. I see no where to upload a second section which would allow me to list a summary. Thanks for any insight. -

I hear you on the volunteer thing. With the pandemic, it WAS hard to find slp’s to take us on. But I finally found one and got started last week, in person. I do hope the uni’s take that under consideration when evaluating our apps. -

Orpas is driving me mad! I am inputting my 5 (of 6, #6 to be taken later) prerequisites. I am taking Linguistics and Phonetics now. Orpas is asking for a grade. I don’t have one. Phonetics will get a grade in December (hopefully!) but Linguistics won’t get a grade until next April/May. Orpas refuses to save my work because I don’t have a grade to input. I put in INC to signify “incomplete”, in order to save my work. Anyone got any suggestions? It’s for U of T. thx -

For anyone still reading, can you please give me some words of wisdom about the “3000” characters on the U of T letter of intent? At first I read 3000 words, but then read “characters”. Omg, how do you fit it all in!?!?! Thanks!!!!- 1,373 replies

500 words for ALL of this!?!?!?! How is that even possible!?! From u of t Statement of Intent All applicants must complete a Statement of Intent and there are two components to the Statement of Intent. The first section should be a maximum of 3,000 characters and should address the following topics, in particular the first four items: Outline reasons for choosing speech‑language pathology as a career; Highlight specific personal attributes that would be relevant for the profession; Emphasize academic and non‑academic accomplishments; Outline reasons for choosing the MHSc program in speech‑language pathology at the University of Toronto; and Demonstrate current knowledge about the profession of speech‑language pathology. Applicants may also wish to use this statement to explain irregularities in their application and to outline any research experiences. The second section of the Statement of Intent is a summary of volunteer experiences and should list: Volunteer experiences in the field of speech‑language pathology and/or audiology in point form, including dates, duration, total hours, populations, and the nature of activities in which the applicant participated; and Other relevant volunteer experiences, including dates, duration, populations, and activities. -

So here’s a question. My 20th course is a full course. I only need .5 of a course to make the full 20 lengths. Anyone know how they manage that for sGPA? -
Hoping others are in the thinking and planning stages for Applying this fall for 2023 admission. Good luck everyone.
