  1. Hello friends! I was accepted into University at Buffalo with a partial scholarship! Still waiting to hear from Ohio State and WLU in Canada. Does anyone know if there is any harm or consequences of accepting the Buffalo offer of admission while waiting to hear back from the other schools' decisions? For example, if I end up choosing another future offer?
  2. Hello! Approximately how long did it take to hear from Ohio State and Buffalo after you applied? Thanks!
  3. uManitoba Sent out some offers over 2 weeks ago. Has anyone heard anything more recent?
  4. You Applied to uManitoba also right? You hear anything yet? Someone on the FB group suggested the second wave of decisions may go out after March 4th. I think that is the deadline for the first wave of applications to accept or not.
  5. Yes haha. But 70-80 percent acceptance rate. CASWE-ACFTS and CSWE have reciprocity. Not my first choice, but it's a choice!
  6. Carletons Website states "...We typically receive 160-180 applications for the two year MSW program, and approximately 80 for the one year MSW..." That's about 14 percent(?) chance for the non-BSW applicants. If it makes you feel better, Carleton also rejected me. I have 30,000 human service hours, 3.4 out of 4.0 GPA for my current master's degree in another field. 3.53 out of 4.0 for my undergrad degree. Also received diversity points for 3 categories. It sucks, but I'm not giving up. Best of luck to you. I'm holding out for Manitoba. If that falls through, I'm just taking a program in the USA then transferring it to Canada. Something to consider.
  7. Just got rejected from Carleton non-BSW. holding out for Manitoba. Good luck everyone
  8. Definitely stressful, but at least they email us and are transparent throughout the process. That's more than I can say for the other programs I've applied to.
  9. Email just out from Carleton. All applications have now been reviewed and admissions decisions will start trickling in over the next few weeks.
  10. I see some Advanced Standing applicants from u Manitoba starting to get decisions, posting on Facebook. I'm non-BSW applicant for u Manitoba. No change in my status yet. Fingers crossed
  11. Just curious if anyone has heard anything or seen their application status change for Canadian MSW Applications Fall 2024?. I checked last years 2023 Canadian Application thread and saw some activity/movement in January. WLU Application Submitted - (no changes) The University of Manitoba- Application Submitted (no changes) Carleton University Preliminary review required (no changes) Here is Carleton's application status page as an example https://graduate.carleton.ca/application-status/
  12. Has anyone seen any changes in their application status? Mine all still say 'submitted' or 'awaiting preliminary review'
  13. Amazing! congratulations! Also great to see some movement on this thread and acceptance letters are already going out to some!
  14. The short answer is, nobody knows. There are a lot of wild card variables. But if you want a very general approximate idea, this is what I found was helpful. Deep dive into each of those universities' websites, faq pages, and probably email them to ask how many applicants they get and how many they let in. Then you would need to find how the applications are weighted by the admissions committee. For example at U Manitoba FAQ says "we accept approximately 60 students (30 for the 1 Year Advanced MSW and 30 for the 2 Year Foundation MSW). We typically receive about 150 applications for the 1 Year Advanced MSW program and about 300 applications for the 2 Year Foundation MSW program." So using this example, I know my chances in the overall application pool are 10 percent for my situation. Carletons FAQ states "Each year we accept approximately twenty-five students into each MSW program. We typically receive 160-180 applications for the two year MSW program, and approximately 80 for the one year MSW." example,So in this example if my math is correct about 14 percent of applicants get accepted, give or take. They also use a rubric of sorts and state 1/3 of the application weight is your letter of intent, 1/3 your grades/GPA, 1/3 your human service experience hours. In addition to this diversity points are usually also considered. I'm really reaching here, but anecdotaly speaking this discussion board is really slow and inactive this year as opposed to previous years. I'm hoping that is a good sign for all of us and there less applicants in the pool increasing all of our odds. Fingers crossed.
  15. I'm submitting mine in a couple days. Quick question for you on UManitoba. Was there any written submissions other than the "area of specialization" statement with a 250 word limit? I feel like I'm missing something... Carleton had the big 1500 word Statement of Intent
  16. After lurking here for over a year I'm finally joining the MSW application club. Applying to foundational programs at Carleton, WLU, and UManitoba. Probably applying for a couple online programs in the states also as a backup plan. Good luck to everyone.
  17. Hi everyone, After some flip flopping I'm starting the slow process to apply by this fall. I have a non-BSW and a MSc in public health. I'm leaving a career as a paramedic after 20 years. My long-term goal is clinical social and private practice counseling. First choice is the University of Calgary clinical track. Backup is WLU, but I'm looking to add some other backups to my list. Any suggestions? I'm willing to relocate. Any other suggestions for programs to apply to without a BSW that have a good clinical foundation or track?
  18. Hello everyone, I'm preparing to apply for an MSW program spring of next year. I have a bachelor's and masters degree in another field, so I need a foundational program (non-BSW) that is mostly online, excluding field time. So far I have only found 2. Are there any others? 1. University of Calgary MSW 2. Wilfrid Laurier University
  19. Does anyone have any advice on the most affordable college/university to complete the pre rec's online for most MA Counseling Psychology programs in Canada?
