Hi guys! I'm attending University of Alberta this year! I'm willing to help out with any questions anyone might have! I highly recommend you consider attending the OASIS virtual conference, where there's always a section on the application process. I found it super helpful! 
I got in on the first time applying with
3.89 GPA in my undergrad in Speech and Hearing Sciences (I also have a certificate in Special Education)
4th quartile CASPER
Recommendation letters from Head of my department, a professor of a class, and my boss.
Resume done by SLPResume, who I highly recommend.
I come with no research background but a passion for adult neurological communication, a capstone project in aphasia, 25 observation hours. I worked for a software company so this is a change of career for me.
If anyone has questions about the U of A process, I'll still be checking this site every once and a while, or you can private message me since I'll get an email about it. Good luck! 

Also! Big news for 2024 for U of A! They’re opening a 15 seat satellite cohort at the U of A Augustana campus. So if you’re willing to live in Camrose (about an hour south of Edmonton), there is another option! Also still offering specific Saskatchewan spots, so the cohort is much bigger overall!

I got rejected to Western and waitlisted to McMaster. Does anyone know if McMaster typically discloses waiting list positions? I've emailed to ask so I'll check back in once they email me back hopefully in the next couple of days. Nothing from UofT so like many I am assuming that means I got rejected.

I got waitlisted at western!!! 

Congratulations to you all! Unfortunately, I was rejected by Western and waitlisted by McMaster. And I did not hear back from UofT yet, so I am sadly expecting some sad news. As this is my first time applying to SLP grad schools, I do not feel too dejected. But maybe the sad feeling will kick in later. It will be a long and hard journey to reapply again next year (if I don’t make it off the waitlist) but hopefully my experience this year will make the reapplication journey easier! 

Got accepted to Western and Mcmaster!!!! I am so thrilled. I checked ORPAS and there is no status update for UofT so I'm assuming that I was rejected there. Congrats to everyone no matter what, everyone should be proud ❤️

does anyone who is going to UofA want to make a whatsapp group? if so send me a message with ur number and i can make it!

The portal won't update until the acceptance has been sent from the department to FGSR. It can take a bit for that, if you're missing documents/conditions you have to meet before. So it should happen with enough time to let them know of your acceptance by the 17th. 
I just spoke to Vicki about some other stuff and that's what she told me. 

I am from Manitoba, and I only applied to U of A, which was quite a risk but I am glad it was worth it

I’m a current first year at UofA and I’m so excited to see all your acceptances (especially to UofA!) If anyone has any questions I’d be more than happy to answer any or if you’re in the Edmonton area and want to go for coffee I would absolutely love to!
I also know as a former lurker that there are probably a few of you out there that may have been waitlisted today and it can feel like the end of the world. I wanted to let you know that I was also a waitlister and that at UofA we often go down the waitlist (I know one student from a year ago that was rejected but then found out they were actually on the waitlist). There are quite a few people in our class that were on the waitlist and I guess what I wanted to say was to not lose hope. The waiting game can honestly be more torturous than the whole application process but there is a solid chance if you’re on the waitlist of getting off! Don’t be too hard on yourself, I believe there’s a space in speech for everyone and your time will come!

I also received my acceptance from U of A!!! I’m so excited.

I got into UofA too! I'm so happy it was also my top choice!
