  1. Hi! I'm an archaeology PhD student at Brown, and I'll say that future employment rests more on individual programs than it does overall school reputation/ranking. For the type of archaeology I do, Brown has much better track record of getting people jobs than Princeton does, but Princeton is almost certainly better in many other programs. Grad degrees are different from undergraduate degrees in that way. Coming out of a PhD, employers aren't looking at a school's reputation or ranking, they're looking at specific programs and professors within those programs. So the question you want is not about schools but rather about departments. Which specific department has a better track record of getting their students jobs? That's something that can only really be answered by asking folks in your field.
  2. Hey everyone. I have a friend who wants to study postmodern literature and is looking for funded comp lit MAs, but he doesn't really know where to start. I'm a PhD student in archaeology so I can help him with the broad application stuff, but I know next to nothing about lit so I figured I would ask around on here, and see if anybody could point to any funded programs or resources on finding them. I saw the pinned excel sheet of funded programs. Is that still accurate? Thanks in advance y'all.

I'll also post a separate thread, but I figured I would start with a more highly trafficked thread like this one. I saw the pinned excel sheet of funded programs. Is that still accurate? Thanks in advance.
  4. I had a 4.0 from my Anthro MA, a 3.7 from my Classics MA, and a 3.9 from my BA. I had one publication, two conference presentations, and about 6 seasons of fieldwork. I know several folks who got in with me with far less/more than those numbers though. So much of acceptance is about intangibles like department/advisor fit and well...luck.
  5. My school did this with me last year and yeah it was basically just checking for fit.
  6. No I don't know anything about history's app process. So sorry!
  7. I don't know if someone has responded to you already about Brown, but I was talking to a philology prof today (i'm a new archaeology PhD student at Brown), and he said they just sent out interview invites. Good luck to you and your friend! I was where y'all are now last year.
  8. One of the students I visited IPCAA at UMich with had also gotten into the AAMW.
  9. Just got a call from the director of the Cotsen saying I got in
  10. Just received a call from IPCAA saying I got in!!!!
  11. Not this year! None of the schools I applied to required the GRE.
  12. Got an interview with the Joukowsky Institute at Brown!! Very overwhelming!!
  13. Just heard back from UCLA's archaeology program with an invite to a "virtual visit" which appears to be a series of zoom interviews for selected candidates. kinda weird but happy for the interview.
  14. I have only heard from IPCAA, but I did reach out to the DGS for Costen (UCLA) and Joukowsky (Brown) a few days ago with an update to my CV (just got hired for a dig and my advisors thought I should let the schools I applied to know), and both DGS passed along the updates to their committees which I assume means that the committees are still deciding.
  15. Just heard from the IPCAA offering a zoom interview. Wish me luck!
