  18. I would say that with the kind of degree you are applying for and your profile, GMAT will probably matter less than your SOP. Your profile is amazing. Reflect this in your statement - go on about your academic and professional achievements and (I guess it's important for the Said School) why you need their MSc degree, what you will do with it, how this education will benefit you and Moldova. This is what I think. I think your chances are great; just have a brilliant SOP.

  21. I am annoyed by the commercially-oriented lot. - So you are applying for a Ph.D. because you can't get a job? - ... No. I am applying for a Ph.D. because I want to have a Ph.D. I wasn't even applying for jobs. - So what are you going to do with a Ph.D.? Will it get you a better job? - I want to teach and do research. This is what people with a Ph.D. do. - ... I don't understand. Will you get a proper job after you do some teaching and research? - ... No. I want to make a career in academia. - So are you attracted to poverty? - I wish you were more ambitious and applied for Law or Medicine. - I am ambitious. - No. - Yes.

  23. The sooner the better. I recommend to start preparing for GRE (general or subject) six months before the test. One hour a day every day of studying does wonders.
  24. It is not up to us to give advice. It is a very important decision that you should do with as little interference by the others as possible. I'd say that Australia is a fantastic country, you will love studying there. I know nothing about the job market there but spending a life teaching in Australia (if it comes to worst and you can't find a job anywhere else) does not sound too bad either (in fact, I would absolutely love to do that). You are being offered a scholarship for doctoral studies! This is fantastic! Congratulations on this opportunity!
  25. I did not buy Microsoft Office for Macs when I switched. I bought iWorks. So I can only speak about that programme. It's good. It takes a little bit of time to figure out how Pages (the equivalent of Microsoft Word) works but when you do this, you will probably appreciate iWorks for being more flexible than Microsoft Word. iWorks transforms all Microsoft Word documents into Pages (if you choose to do so). You can also save your Pages documents as Word (but you can't edit it as Word) or as PDF. When the document is transformed from Word into Pages, the most obvious problem is usually Fonts (e.g. Book Antigua needs to be changed to Palatino) and Margins. It is easily fixable though. This is far as I can comment. I'd say that iWorks is great but it will probably take you more time to adjust your life to it than if you purchased MicrosoftOffice for Macs.
