I got accepted to their MAPSS program too, half-tuition. I think I'm going to take NYU's fully funded Ph.D. offer, though.

Michigan and UCLA rejection today. One more letter/email then it's over!

I have had the same majors: Arabic and History. I just added a minor (Persian) along the way.

Broadly speaking, my specialization is Greater Syria in the Middle Ages (particularly during the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt). I focus mainly on cultural/social/intellectual issues. More narrowly, I am working on a thesis about intellectual relationships in Syria during this time, and how different processes of education fostered relationships that transcended class, race, and sometimes even gender.

No, I wasn't. I think that may be because I applied for one of their joint programs; I believe that was the case for another of NYU's acceptances as well.

The email came from the Associate Dean of Graduate Enrollment, Roberta Popik, with an attached letter from the dean. I hope you get in too!

This happened today (!): I was sitting in class listening to a lecture on martyrdom in Islam. My phone buzzed. When I saw that it was from NYU Graduate Admissions, my heart stopped, and then I opened it and saw "We are pleased to offer you" and I just started grinning like a fool. My eyes even teared up. My professor either thought I was really emotionally invested in her lecture or crazy.

I got my first acceptance today! I was listening to a lecture on the martyrdom of Hussein when I got the email from NYU saying that I was accepted to their joint ME/Islamic studies and history Ph.D. program. And I got funding!! I sat there grinning like fool for the last hour of class...I told my professor after so she didn't think I was possessed or irreverent or something. So happy!!

Pennsylvania has been sending out emails, linking people to their website for their admissions decision. Rejection #2 for me. I knew they were only accepting one Middle Eastern history student, but two rejections in two days kind of hurts.

Yeah, I just got my first letter - a rejection - this morning. It hurt more because of the "Oh-no-what-if-ALL-the-schools-reject-me!" feeling than anything, I think. One of my professors actually told me that this school may not be the best for me, so I'm going to hang on to that and try not to feel too depressed.

Well, I got my first rejection today. Harvard, by mail. One of my recommenders told me he hadn't heard the best things about the professor with whom I would be working, but to have my first notification be a rejection is more than a little depressing.

After I graduate in June, I am going to continue working part time at my job on campus, since former students are allowed to work one quarter after they graduate. Sometime in the end of June/beginning of July, my family is going on a cruise to celebrate my brother's high school graduation and my college graduation. Otherwise, hopefully I will get some time to relax, study languages at my leisure, and maybe enjoy life a little

I still haven't heard anything, despite the fact that it appeared that Chicago, at least, sent out some waitlists/acceptances today. I kind of feel like my worst nightmare is coming true, and that I will end up in mid-March with rejection after rejection. Ugh, sorry for the pessimism, but I can't believe that I'm still in limbo here.

Actually, I don't know if they have sent out all of their acceptances/rejections yet. If you haven't heard, then they probably haven't. I know they sent out some acceptances in the beginning of the month, but I guess they are going to send out the rest in another batch later. I hope you hear soon! It's a great department. Who do you want to work with?

Yes. I believe the Middle Eastern history committee here at OSU (where I am for my undergrad) already sent out decisions, so I'm not surprised they expect me to have some responses as well.

It seems like all the schools I applied to (or most?) are giving out their decisions in March. I guess I should not panic too much, yet, then.

I just looked on Chicago's website, and it says that decisions will be sent out by email the first two weeks of March.
