  1. I relate to y'all in waitlist hell. JHU waitlist = unranked; Vandy waitlist = they say I'm at the top but no guarantee anyone will decline. This is a special kind of limbo...
  2. Hey, I just wanna say, as a spec fic and sci fi lover, but someone who's never been able to write it, I'm impressed with you just for being able to finish a piece! I would love to be able to write spec fic! Keep improving and you'll make it where you're meant to be
  3. Huge congrats! Let yourself wallow in validation even if it's not fully funded! You did that!
  4. Oh dear... guess I'm assuming a rejection for UMich, Virginia Tech, Syracuse and Northwestern now.
  5. I applied to UMich for poetry; I don't believe there's been any news reported so far.
  6. @Chex @saramsarang + anyone else who may be feeling discouraged from rejections: You are worthy. You are interesting. You are unique. I'm sorry that the adcoms haven't seen it yet, but that doesn't mean it's not true. You got this, I'll be thinking of you and manifesting an acceptance soon! happy Friday everybody. Let's do something nice for ourselves this weekend
  7. It's been a long day, of many schools replying to many strong, persistent writers, both here and Draft, but yet.... as the day draws to a close, and the sun sets, my mind returns to Iowa... still silent, looming like a gas giant ...
  8. Love seeing so much love here on the graduate cafeteria! Congrats to everybody who got good news. I'm manifesting that it continues to roll in for all of us!
  9. I'm out of reactions so thanks scribe, & congrats girlgenius !
  10. @lemmmein congrats on your acceptance :))<3 and @ghostinthegraveyard welcome! plays are cool:) & we have three schools in common!
  11. Thank you sm :)) Hoping for good news for all of you fiction applicants!!
  12. I just got a Vandy waitlist email 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
  13. Good morning folks !! I agree re: we had reason to expect a wave, wave has been mostly rejections but the week's not over yet 🫶
  14. Alert. This is not a drill. there was a Vanderbilt poetry acceptance in draft. From yesterday 2/13
  15. Meme that I have just dreamed up: You guys are checking your email every 5 minutes. I'm tightly folding up a slip of paper with "Iowa Writer's Workshop" written on it 100 times in red ink, dropping it in a vial of my tears, lighting 13 candles around it, then using the wax to seal the vial and burying it while chanting lines from Mary Oliver poems. We are not the same.
  16. Godspeed edit: omg thank you for doing this is this a fiction prof you were corresponding with? Or someone who could potentially be speaking to both genres... 👀
  17. Nope, nothing and I'm itchy...
  18. I saw that! Anyone have theories? Maybe they applied a prior round? Totally baffles me.
  19. You're def not alone, ppl are discussing this on draft (obv you may be one of those people lol)
  20. Still not even close to 2021 😂
  21. I am also currently gnawing on the edge of my desk
  22. mood. I'm having trouble reading poetry because of the self-comparison! I recommend Naomi Novik's fantasy novels and Becky Chambers' SF novels (especially the monk and robot one because it's so stress free) for fun distraction!
  23. EXACTLY... You're not the only one... it's coming... the great wave
  24. I need to go into cryosleep. I need to be sedated. I need to be cocooned in glass ice like Snow White. I need Google glasses to supply me with constant updates. I need a bed that sleeps me for a thousand seconds.... I literally need an IV of lemonade and hope. I need to be a frozen caveman under the swamp undiscovered for a thousand years. Wake me when March comes. Edit: Guys, according to Draft Iowa began notifying Valentine's last year (fiction).
  25. Dude, I'm student teaching at a high school right now and the amount of chatGPT is insane. The english department decided to only do in class essays to quell the issue but it's still happening. It's hard to confirm but the vet teachers know it when they see it. I'm sorry there's such a weird culture around it where you work. it's a powerful tool that needs careful ethical handling... obviously. But creative writing, I believe, is safe. I can't say the same for copywriting.
