Sending prayers, manifestations, or whatever you believe in your way, TPike! in other news, work was cancelled today (snow day!) and now I have no idea how I'm going to distract myself from waiting for a call😭 -

This can't be the case because some emails say they can't release the numbers, right? I remember seeing one that said "due to the nature of our admissions process we are unable to answer questions..." but maybe that was only regarding the waitlist, not the overall number of applicants? there was a similar question to this in Draft today about JHU. someone emailed and they said not all notifs were out yet. You're probably fine! -

Lol, well I'm glad I posted about it! Yeah, I think it's best to do it just in case. I also applied to only fully funded programs but I'm doing mine later today so you're not alone in not having done it yet. When you call them to try to get your login sorted just remember you've got this, stay persistent, explain what you need, and don't let the robots get to you! -

Ah, I was hoping something like this was the case. Now I just have to hope I filled it out right! -

Hey guys, I'm only now submitting my FAFSA. Do you think I've screwed up my chances for funding? -

Condolences to all those who weren't accepted to WashU! I'd be in the same boat if I'd applied but I missed the deadline, lol. Remember your worth is determined by your kindness to others and not your material accomplishments! ❤️ -

Good morning everyone! (Although ofc it's not morning for everyone, since we have some international applicants in the chat.) In any case the weekend is over and we are due for some news. What is everyone doing to self-care and stay sane this week? As for the discussion above, I think it's really commendable to a) seek an MFA later in life and b) seek it for the right reasons such that you're willing to make sacrifices because it's the right thing for you at that moment. I hope I'm seeking it for the right reasons (I really want to teach, get better at writing, and be part of the poetic literary world but I'm shy and need guidance to make these goals happen) but part of me worries that I'm applying just because I want validation and the chance to be accepted into a prestigious school and then, finally, I'll feel good enough... except, wait, it doesn't ever really work that way. (I'm in my early 20s, if you couldn't tell). In terms of the state of teaching, and adjunct horror stories, I do believe it's tough out there. What I hear from a lot of people my age who are in grad school is that on top of the insufficient compensation, they are just not prepared or supported in teaching. That's why I enrolled in a teacher prep program before applying to grad school because I would feel terrified taking on a TAship without any preparation whatsoever. However, I don't think this should discourage those of us who have teaching as a goal and who are applying to MFAs at least partially in service of that goal. My final thought on this is that the advice going around to not mention if you want to teach in your SOP because it makes you look naive is patently ridiculous. -

Also, random/off topic, but I just made a Bluesky Social account because I wanted to follow Elizabeth McCracken after seeing her twitter account mentioned in MFA draft. She works at NWP in fiction I think? Anyhow she had some funny bluesky tweets about not being able to tweet about application stuff anymore because it makes ripples in the fb group 😂 anyone see that? also, if you guys have bluesky accounts and you want to follow each other let me know! -

Yeah, this is totally true. I wish I could read through the old Draft groups the same way you can read the last few years' forums on here. But based on what is available it does seem like things stretch til April. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to sleep tonight muttering "acceptance call... this week.... acceptance call... Elizabeth Willis.... " -

Lol, it happens. Hope you get accepted soon! Does anyone else have it in their head that this week is going to be *the week* for acceptances? Even though it could very well go on for another week or two afterwards. I can barely focus, but I'm going to soldier through some of my to-do list and then ... maybe even do some writing??? -

Dang, I wonder why people are getting rejected from Draft. If people have specific questions about what is up on the spreadsheet I can answer them here. Syracuse may have notified already (for poets at least, there's one acceptance in the sheet) but it's looking like Brown, Rutgers, Vandy, etc haven't. I am manifesting a call from Vandy this week... -

Me too I thought it was really good. He was a perfect unlikeable yet likeable character. And I loved the multiple endings part. -

I just saw someone on an old thread say they wished there were MFA acceptance reaction videos on Youtube and now I'm yearning. -

Educational philosophy is so cool! I'm working on my pedagogical student teacher journal right now. It's due at midnight and I'm Struggling. But as I am struggling... I need to remember... Educational Philosophy is actually really interesting and important! in some of my apps I wrote about wanting to "capture the feeling of awe that characterizes learning" in my poetry, lol. -

To protect my tender heart, I will not be assuming a rejection from Michigan until the waitlist result is also posted on Draft. -

I'm glad you're making the transition! I had the same feeling that CWR might be kinder, just a bit earlier in life! I hope the community is everything you hope and more:) And guess what... they're talking about ethics of care in my Teacher Preparation program! It's really catching on, and I'm proud because I think it's a beautiful philosophical concept -

Hi!! A fellow philosopher:) I graduated with my philosophy BA in 2022 and loved it sm. I focused on feminist ethics. It's a great discipline, though not always friendly to us women. (I'm assuming your gender based on username, sorry if I'm wrong!) I'd love to hear about how you view the connections between your CNF work and your philosophy work. -

Nope, and my waitlist for JHU doesn't show up in the portal. Most say "complete," "under review," or nothing at all, like you described. Yes, poetry. It was a form email. I hope you hear back from another program next week! -

Yes, I'm going to try to submit some poems to literary journals this spring for the first time since high school! It can't be that much harder than apps, lol. A remote literary agency internship sounds really cool! Are you reading fiction submissions for them? -

I wanna learn more about you guys! Distraction thread? How old are you guys in this thread? I'm 23, two years out of undergrad with zero big accomplishments in between, no pubs either. I'm currently enrolled in a Teacher Prep program, so if MFAs don't work out I'll probably be looking for secondary English teaching jobs at private schools in the US.
