Very surprised here to learn princeton has a very competitive interview. my ignorance
-
Sounding it is really really the season.... don't know when my piece of (good) news will arrive
-
I hope (I mean really really really really hope) it's only in the Japanese history... I am in the East Asian history (and I know I wrote a terribly bad Essay) and haven't heard anything from Columbia although my LoR writer just had couple lunches with Columbia professors
-
Thanks for this.. my bad.. sincere apology to anyone who's offended or might be. my post's been removed as well.
-
Glad I am (or we are) not the only one. I came here to check news and don't really get very much anxious reading updates (except for once or twice haha). I do understand people are getting a little bit er.. over.. under the stress but I wish we all could calm down and enjoy the talk.
-
Sorry to hear your bad news. I feel quite uncertain now about what that can mean to me, or nothing at all. Applied to Yale's East Asia wing as well.
-
I should do that too. I didn't ask them, afraid of annoying them. But actually one of my professors is a DGS and mentioned he'd like to if I asked just days ago..

Anyone feeling his or her application was a diaster as I am now?

EXACTLY the same here. My last one is the best.. but it's only a safety with late due date... -

Thanks. Well, sort of. I happen to have "a lot of conversations" after I handed everything in... -
I happen to open up my files and re-read my application materials this morning. In the past months I had a lot of conversations with all kinds of professors and presumably now have a better idea about what constitutes a good application. Then I realize, my own application material is completely a disaster - unable to convey what I wanted, have terrible narrative structure, and probably won't appeal to what professors are looking for. Feeling pretty sad now. I don't know if anyone's feeling the same
-
WOW. I didn't know that. I haven't contacted them for a while. It seems they are really putting heroic efforts to get things gone. Much much better than what Columbia seems like probably a couple months ago.
-
I'm pretty sure this is the way the *lazy* admission office updates status. As long as it shows "COMPLETE," no worries, or I was so told.
-
Not to disappoint you but it's probably not. My materials were sent in for review by Christmas. You may wanna bug them.
-
A little bit anxious here too but........ no matter what happens.. don't go finding a limb and a rope tho....
-
This is a good one.... My positives: two professors agreed to pull their strings for me That relives my worries a lot
-
By the way, my parents are not Americans anyways so I'm already very glad that they even know Harvard. I am optimistic that they will eventually figure out what/where my college is...
-
Gosh.. I guess you guys are having much better moms than I do.. My mom has started checking out real estate properties in Boston since............ LAST YEAR... My parents said they would consider moving along with me (which, of course, is what I'd hope rather not to happen) When I told them I'd be really really grateful if Columbia wanted me, they said: "oh... we think your uncle has been there... it's a...errr... small and desolated college?" I really don't know what to say....
-
Same here, but I have submitted almost 2 months ago..... Columbia is slow..
-
I like mine. Actually my whole point of the SOP was, indeed, experience. BTW, yes I did pick up the SOP for my top choice, haha
-
NVM, got the letter too. Relieved haha
-
It's the 10th. Gosh I turned everything in this November...
-
It's been a while since all of my materials were in but i didn't get any such emails. When did you submit your application?
-
AFAIK, good news usually starts to arrive in early/mid Feb and will continue coming in for a while till the end of Feb or early March. For languages, they probably don't expect you to have fluency (although it's definitely a plus if you do). It's widely accepted that you should/still can refine your language skills in your PhD years.
-
No haha I didn't have this kind of knowledge (well, I'm not super social anyways). I only know certain professors in the European/Asian realm's characteristics/preference, etc, from daily interaction. Sounds I can't be of much help here anyways XD

This is really interesting! Thanks.
