    CCNY?

I think that your case is most likely this: You were on the waitlist and some schools don't really disclose their waitlist. when a space becomes available, they send an email to the applicant that they have expanded an admission to you. Most schools send out their first admission mail sets to initially admitted students, then they send waitists to the potential admitted students. some school don't send waitlist until very end. I think someone turned the school's offer down at the very last, and you were just picked up as an alterate. As far as I am concerned, most schools don't particularly notify waitlisted students about their final dicision unless they need to call someone up. thanks
  3. yeah I wouldn't go to Yale or Columbia at the age of 68 something like that......! (I will only have about 20 years to live ) I'd rather attend a graduate school in my late 20- early 30 so that I can find a teaching job or other opportunities suggested by MFA degree. A degree cannot be an ultimate dream but a "gateway" or "foothold" It would be wise if you can realize where you are in your life and when do you need to pass the gateway and build the foothold!
  4. You are right. I wished they had a really acurate rate that covers individual departments. some have but many are from "art department" or "school of arts" so it must vary from department to department!
  5. Sorry. I am the one who posted the thread " MFA acceptance rate". I didn't intend to discourage anyone, I want to share information with other candidates here! Since there is not standard test score like GRE or GMAT, everyone has a change to get in, at that same time, to get rejected. Hence, by nature all prospective applicants would try to apply for "good" schools, so it is inevitable that there are always a lot of competitions with regard to graduate admission. I concluded that there is no such thing as a "safty" school (especially good ones) when it comes to MFA admission. But I insist on NOT judging your application and there are always "magic" and "miracle" during the season. Everyone has a good chance to make it!
  6. I heard that cornell's MFA is free. also USC is free? not sure. Hunter is cheap. tyler offers 25% tuition. NYU offers 50%? (i just heard..)
  7. Hi Tyler has an amazing interdisciplinary program. You shoud look into it!

  9. I am a first year graduat at Tyler School of Art in Printmaking. I met facultes and had conversation about program here. Tyler has a great multidisciplinary program; you can explore diverse and diffrent processes. As a printmaking major, you need to take one printmaking seminar and project and the rest of your courses are up to your interest. Tyler has a solid and strong fine art programs; especially, Tyler's painting & drawing, sculpture, and printmaking are its longstanding top programs in the country. My work is not embeded in a traditional printmkaing process at all. Actually, I use vocabularies of printmaking and the idea of mass-production that suggests an extension of printmaking process in my project. The whole idea of printmaking has drastically changed over last a few dacades. I believe, contemporary printmakers should define their own definition of printmaking which varies according to your own conceptual method. Nowadays, most renown graduate schools support and encourage their students to intergrate their artistic practice into diverse disciplines. I am not knowlegeable about other school's programs. But as a person who went to one of the most multidisciplainary art school in the US for undergraduate (SAIC), I can confidently say that the idea of media specificity has become obsolete. And over last 20 years, most galleries gaining critical claims within contemporaray art scene support artists who take a huge risk and never cease to go across the boundaries of media, processes, and ideas. Thus, I would not merely consider your school's printmaking program, instead, I will look closely up its other programs and overall environment including recent graduates, location, and art scene. I hope this helps your dicision making!
  10. thanks for your advice. I am going for Tyler! not because of your opinion, but the fact that Tyler has better options for me. also Philadelphia is booming at this moment. thanks
  11. Still deciding. maybe Tyler school of Art!
  12. Hi all I am having hard times diciding between Cranbrook and Tyler. Both are, of course, great schools. I am interested in painting and printmaking. These are pros and cons. Cranbrook pros. Higher Ranking in general. 4th in US no A B C D grades intense discourses cons. Completely isolated location No undergraduate (no or less Teaching opportunities) small number of faculties Expensive Tyler School of Art pros. Good location and marketable area (Philadelphia, close to NY) Brand new state of the art facilities (newly built in 2009) option for study aboard in Rome and good chance of TA job affordable (all Tyler MFAs get 25 % scholarship and also its part of Temple University which is a public school) Cons. lowerly ranked than Cranbrook in general (still very high though) A B C D grades Big University (Crowded?) Actually, Tyler seems to have better options but Cranbrook ranking is so high (higher than Tyler) How do you guys think about these two schools? which one is better? for painting and printmaking. thanks
