  1. No kidding!! I live in San Diego and most of the schools I applied to are in New England. Don't think I'll survive!!
  2. I love this. Well done!!
  3. Yeah I think those scores really don't matter much at all. I had a 460V 740Q and 4.5W and I'm really not worried at all. I've been told time and time again it's all about the quality of your research experience and LOR's. Good luck!
  4. Yeah I'm wondering about this too. My undergrad GPA was really low but I did 2 summer research internships at different pharmaceutical companies and I work full time doing research for the past 2.5 years. I have a few patents and a publication and excellent letters of rec. so I'm hoping that outweighs my low numbers. It also doesn't hurt when your boss is close personal friends with the head of the chemistry department at the school you want to go to. I guess we'll all find out soon enough. Good luck to everyone.
  5. 25. Worked in industry for 3 years (well 2.5 as of now)
  6. I graduated a couple years ago and am doing research for big pharma. If I don't get in anywhere I'll just keep working and maybe reapply next year.
  7. It's alway sunny in philadelphia is awesome Arrested Development is the best But you HAVE to watch Stevie. It's a documentary and it's on Netflix and its AMAZING
  8. Wow what a low GPA, he even thought to apply here? Oh wait, extensive research experience in industry with patents and publications to match? AND an outstanding letter of rec from a close friend and respected colleague of mine? How could I possibly say no?!
  9. Hi, I’m hoping someone can offer some insight about how useful industry experience is for graduate admissions. My GPA was really low (2.9 ) As an undergraduate I did 2 med chem internships in industry, one at a startup and one at a big name pharma company. After graduating I started work at another huge pharma company where I have been for a few years. I got a side methodology paper published (in a bad journal) and am a named inventor for 3 patents. I got exceptional letters of rec from my direct supervisors at each internship and as well as my current job. Also my supervisor is close friends with the head of the chem. Dept at a top 10 school. Does anyone know how much weight research experience and publications/patents holds? Can it make up for my horrible gpa? (I never planned on going to grad school, or else I could have tried harder) Thanks for any advise!!!
  10. Why do you want a med chem PhD instead of an organic synthesis PhD? I work for big pharma and I'm applying back to grad school now. I can tell you for med chem positions no one with a med chem PhD would be considered. If you're looking to do something different after then I supose this doesn't apply. Good luck!!
