  1. One year a program I applied to got like 10 applicants and accepted all of them. This was a while ago though. In the past few years, all programs have gotten 20 - 30. I used to take comfort in that small pool, but then I realized how weirdly self-selecting these programs are and freaked myself out even more.
  2. A break from waiting would be AMAZING. Almost as good as a complete end to waiting.
  3. 6. 5 PhD programs, 1 masters.
  4. I think if anything I regret not applying to more schools. I chose my 6 specifically so that I'd be happy at any/all of the places I applied, but now I'm wondering if that was enough.
  5. I've checked the reading list for the core course at the UCL MA program I applied to. It's pretty sweet - one of the main reasons I applied, despite the fact that I'd rather go straight into a PhD program. I can't wait to read all of the assigned articles, even if I don't end up there. *geek out*
  6. I think mine will split right down the middle: 3 acceptances 3 rejections
  7. Reading all of those results makes me regret that I'm history of science, not actual science. Maybe I should have stuck with biology after all. Oh well. I hope their interviews go well.
  8. Iiiiiit's.... Monday! Ok, schools, you can contact me now. I'm awake! Please?
  9. Haha, the only overlap I've noticed so far is linden on here and the Chronicle forums. Oh god, I feel like such a huge geek admitting that. I'm another obsessed applicant who checks all three of those sites pretty much every day.... I only lurk in the Chronicle forums, no posting. That doesn't make it any better though...
  10. The tag feature is sometimes helpful. You could try your luck with that. Also, you should check out http://community.livejournal.com/who_got_in/. There's a psychology post there, but so far no one has replied. I suspect the activity will pick up there soon, though... as I remember from my obsessive lurking last year, it was quite a busy community.
  11. Neat idea. I'm pretty sure they do that automatically on yuster.com, but the results page there is not nearly as comprehensive as here. 25% for one of my programs, 33% for another, 100% (ha, I wish - just one entry though) for another, 0% for yet another (2, maybe one entry -- can't tell if it's a duplicate or not). I need a hobby.
  12. Yeah... From the results page, I might know of an acceptance as early as next week. Well, next week + 3 days. I'm already getting ahead of myself.
  13. Agreed! I feel a weird mix of jealousy and excitement when there are updates on the results page - but I focus mostly on the excitement. Wee!
  14. I don't even drive yet, so it's doubtful. I'm thinking of learning how this summer, but most likely I will invest in a decent bike.
  15. Mine has to do with the admissions committee finding my writing sample immature / scandalous / not well written / whatever, and inviting me for an interview just so they can put a face to such a ridiculous application.
  16. Clever! But now you've given me an excuse to spend countless hours ogling grad department websites, memorizing everything...
  17. thanks for the encouragement I applied to Penn (of course), Yale, Wisconsin-Madison, Harvard, Minnesota-Twin Cities, and a 1 year MA in the history of medicine at University College London. I'm interested in focusing on women's health history. What about you? Any more overlap? It is strangely fascinating to hear about other people applying to this sort of thing!
  18. Talked to a couple of people at Penn today. Apparently I sent my materials to the Graduate Division and not the Department. The Coordinator said it should have gone directly to the dept, which is weird, considering the main admissions/'apply now' in huge letters page says pretty specifically that it goes through Grad Div first. Hoping that it gets sorted out and they consider my application along with the others... I'm still really freaked out that they've already offered interviews and my application hasn't even gotten there yet. I can't be the only one to have this problem though, so maybe everything will be ok. :|
  19. I'm waiting and waiting for Penn to "receive" most of my materials -- GRE, one paper recommendation, transcript -- meaning they need to find it in a huge pile of pre-break mail and pass it on to the department. Unfortunately, as I learned in another thread in the History forum, this particular program has already started offering interviews. Eeep! After two frantic phone calls today, I feel only a tiny bit reassured. I wish I could start working on the senior thesis chapter I need to complete this week, but no luck. I'm here instead. I'll be so glad when this is all over.
  20. Now that it's January, I feel even crazier. Eeeeeep. Waiting is so hard
  21. Wow, that's great! ...Only now I'm convinced that I'm doomed to failure in terms of my app. Anyway, share your interview experience with us when it's done. good luck again!
  22. I have no idea about your question, but I just wanted to pop in and say that I applied there as well. I submitted just before the deadline, and the online app. still says they're waiting on my transcript and such... I hope everything is floating around the admissions office somewhere. :? If you don't mind, when did you submit your app? Also, good luck!
