Naps. They work, as least while you're napping.

Sunday afternoon: another weekend almost gone. Hooray! And then I work all day tomorrow, so I will be distracted from grad admissions. Further hooray!
-
Sorry - I just have to represent as a native Philadelphian: Philly is great! You just have to take the city with a grain of irony.

Belated congrats to everyone who's posted about acceptances on the last few pages. I just did serious catch up reading in this thread. My gradcafe usage is up significantly this weekend because I'm expecting to hear from Yale history of sci/med in the coming week. Needless to say, I am terrified. I feel a bit odd posting along with all of you guys because I'm not history-history, but rather a different department with different admissions stats. Still, solidarity regardless! Let's hope the 2nd week of Feb is a good one.

How long before you get the "official" acceptance?
ohheygradschool replied to crofty's topic in Waiting it Out
I hear you. Have patience. I got a phone call, then a week or so later a letter acceptance... still waiting on funding, but that's just how this sort of thing goes. Try to feel relieved -
TA at better school or Fellowship at another?

Have you visited the schools yet? -
I wouldn't tell until necessary. Brag to us instead!

I feel like time is going faster now. It's already been 2 weeks since my first acceptance. But still I'm feeling like, please sir, I'd like some more...

This link doesn't seem to be working for me anymore... hmm.

The Worst Time to Quit Smoking...

I've been sleeping more lately. Naps are my guilty pleasure when I should be working. Sign of depression? Maybe. I think it's mostly just exhaustion due to this whole crazy process. -
That might be good for my senior thesis about feminine hygiene... I just requested it on ILL.
-
Oh god. I forgot to factor in GRE stuff - test fee AND prep books.... The number should be a few hundred dollars higher, for sure!

I'd like to know what happened with Claire also. And Jack's dad. Wtf? And of course, more about Jacob.

Of course, the unofficial chat has become a huge time waster for me...

Because there hasn't been a pool for a few days

Further, it also subverts the expert/lay person dichotomy, having been written by only a graduate school applicant. Note how the author assumes a hyper-casual, 'student' voice to mock this binary system: "Like, whatever", "Bla, bla, bla, The Economic Crisis [take drink]" (Ridgey 2009). -
This is sort of a weird poll. I think we are now officially fetishizing grad school life. I guess it's just that time of year...

I just inter-library loaned a couple of books by people at one of the schools I was accepted at. Other than that, I'm working through a whole bunch of books and articles for my thesis. I don't have time for pleasure reading at the moment... that's where tv and movies come in.

YES. I've been re-watching Season 1 and also the new seasons of LOST and The L Word. When I have time, that is.

My girlfriend and I recently decided to go through with the long distance thing after graduation. I'll be somewhere in either the Midwest or Northeast, but she'll be in Mississippi doing Teach for America for two years. I'm a little worried about how gay-friendly (or unfriendly) the Delta will be, but I'm excited to visit her anyway. We'll have to work out the visiting schedule, but I'm currently very optimistic about our chances.

That's a great idea. What a strangely effective motivator.

Yay, I love polls!

I just happened to check the application website one day and, lo and behold, the status had changed to "Decision Made." Then there was a link to view the decision, which was a scanned-in, pretty generic letter from the grad school congratulating me, in a new window. I got an email the next day saying that decisions had been made, so check the status. But I already had, of course... so I think the obsessive checking is worth something.

One of my 12/15 applications is still 'incomplete'

At what point in the day do you give up?
ohheygradschool replied to t_ruth's topic in Waiting it Out
I got a phone call around 3 (EST). I usually start winding down around 5.
