I know this is much easier said than done, but please try to remember that the rejections are not a reflection of you or the quality your work and don't let it discourage you too much! So many schools intentionally try to curate a cohort of artists that are making very different work from each other, and sometimes rejections are only because another applicant's work is too similar in genre. I think for a lot of people (myself included, especially last year) it feels like there's this huge rush to get the MFA, and putting it off for a year to reapply feels like such a huge delay--but for me at least, the year FLEW by, and I'm already getting much better results this year than last (including an interview at a program from which I was rejected without an interview last time around.) All this to say--you have time, and sometimes reapplying is the best investment in yourself, especially if you have a dream program that you don't get into on your first (or even first few) attempts. I try to remind myself that I believe I can be good enough for my dream program, even if I'm not there yet, and believing in myself means continuing to fight for it, even if it takes longer than I hoped. Best of luck to you!!!

Yes last year I got the rejection at like 12:25AM! It showed up as a status update in my portal so I just...refused to open it for several days, because I knew what it was already lol. But then this year I got my SAIC invite as a status update in their portal as well so I guess everywhere is different (I was right about the Yale update being a rejection though)

I think there's a very good chance we hear back from Yale this week or next. If I remember correctly, in past years they have released finalist notifications outside of typical work hours (which I imagine helps them avoid a barrage of phone calls/emails the second they send them out). I'm also pretty sure they will send out rejections and interview invites simultaneously, unlike some others

I also got a BU interview after being rejected with no interview last year!

Hi! Wanted to share my info/updates as well in case anyone finds it helpful. This is my second year applying to Painting programs — I had a few acceptances at schools I was really excited about last year, but the funding/financial situation wasn’t what I had hoped for, so trying again with (hopefully) a stronger portfolio + exhibition resume in hopes of earning more merit aid! Last year: SVA - Accepted with $9k annual merit aid, successfully negotiated up to $15k (unfortunately still not enough for me to live in NYC) MICA (Hoffberger) - Accepted with $25k annual merit aid Pratt - Accepted, no scholarship Yale - Rejected (no interview) Hunter - Rejected (no interview) Rutgers - Rejected (no interview) BU - Rejected (no interview) This year (so far): SVA - Interviewed last week, no word yet SAIC - Invited to interview UPenn - Invited to interview MICA (Hoffberger) - Invited to interview RISD - No word yet Yale - No word yet Rutgers - No word yet BU - No word yet Tyler - No word yet Hunter - No word yet Pratt - No word yet Cornell - No word yet Feel free to ask any questions and good luck everyone!

Hiii friends -- has anyone else applied to Penn/Weitzman? I submitted last week and got the invite to do the optional video interview which I think I have to submit by Weds, and I'm not sure what to expect from it -- seems like we don't have a ton of opportunities to retake questions or that much time to prepare answers after we can see the questions, so would love any tips anyone might have !
-
To those of you who have also submitted to Yale -- did you get a confirmation email that the application itself was successfully submitted, or just a confirmation of payment? On the portal it says that they've received all of my materials and I got the payment confirmation email, but no email to confirm that my application submitted successfully, which I feel like every other school sends. Lmk!

I was accepted to 3 programs and got merit scholarships from 2 of them ($25k and $9k) but no merit scholarship at the third, which is by far my top choice. Only found out I didn’t get any funding at my top choice program today, and the deposit deadline is in 2 weeks. Is it too late to try to negotiate? the school that gave me $25k is ranked higher, can I use it as leverage? is it even worth trying to negotiate if I wasn’t offered any merit scholarship to begin with? taking any and all advice on negotiating funding
