Im sorry you got a rejection from Yale, but a Rutgers interview is a big deal, I'm sure it speaks to you having amazing talent.

Is there anyone who has been through multiple admission cycles, that frequented past forums, that can answer this: do some schools send interview invites in batches, since some folks have received interview request earlier this week, while others have no status updates? could this leave a possibility that they can still get an interview request later this week or next week? Very importantly, has anyone seen schools do this?

Was your interview request an online format, or did they ask to come in person?

What date did you get an interview request with rutgers? Also, are you photography (assuming by the username)? When you say you didn't get invited by Yale, is that because you haven't heard anything yet, or did you get a rejection letter?

I've actually found their staff to be super receptive and friendly in emails. I'm also aware there are only two people working administration who can respond to messages, and there at least 1,200+ applicants. Only thing that is lacking is you can't do a graduate tour unless you're offered admission.

It's just the negative things like the anxiety and overthinking due to the long process and silence. Getting into grad school is now on my mind everyday. This forum has been a blessing because it gives us a place to channel our thoughts with others in the same boat (pun intended). I just thought the Titanic analogy was a funny comparison. Also, the federal funding thing is super abnormal to the process of going to school. It does make things harder on all of us, and increases the need to get an mfa degree before they become even more unattainable.

When did you receive your rejection letter last year?

I don't think I can speak to their funding that much since they're not a state school. But as a private art school, they're going to admit students every year, so I wouldn't be worried that much. I think the big issue is the timeline being pushed way too far back for applicants. Come March, people want to know their admission offers so they can make a decision. And for some folks, they might be waiting to travel and visit schools, after an offer, to better inform their decision. This is why SAIC's deadline extension is really messy.

Yikes for those of you who applied to SAIC, I know it's a big named program, but that's a red flag. You'll likely have admission offers elsewhere by March 1. For others waiting for Yale, Rutgers, and BU, I applied there too and haven't heard back yet either. No sweat though, I wasn't expecting to hear back before February, but I do expect some of them to reach out at some point this week, or the next.

If you apply to at least two schools, definitely consider applying to at least 1 school in-state because you have in-state versus out state fees. The difference in costs can be a lot of money. Of the programs I mentioned, Kent State is spoken really highly off. It's an hour away from Philidelphia, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland, so you're not too far from some big cities.

Apply to at least one state school. Kent State, Bowling Green State, Florida State, LSU, all of these are fully funded with assistantships, and they have February 1 deadlines. App costs are generally between $30-$50 each school. Apply to at least one today before the deadline closes. There are so many schools like these with feb 1 deadlines, so choose one in a state you'd be able to go to and would enjoy.
