    UConn

Okay, there's no way only two of us on this forum have applied to UConn. Anybody else except the Latin Americanist (whose name escapes me at the moment) and myself apply to UConn? Anyone hear anything?
  2. If it makes you feel any better, I applied to eight schools, and seven of them have rejected me, while I'm still waiting to hear back from one.
  3. My first notification was a rejection, and my second notification was a rejection, and I'm pretty sure I've been unofficially rejected from a third, and that's all I've heard so far. Trying not to lose hope, but it's kind of a tough battle.
  4. Fabulous. /sarcasm
  5. I haven't, but it's my top choice, so I'd really like to know something soon!!!
  6. I haven't, no. And after this morning's rejection, I'm afraid to.. Although...Yale apparently wasn't the right place for me, because I'm not all that bummed about getting rejected. It sucks, yes, but I'm not nearly as upset as I thought I'd be...
  7. Apparently they can, and they have.
  8. I feel the need to say "I told you so"....

    Yale

    Ditto to all of this.
  10. I haven't, and I've been checking the website too. Nothing's changed. Edit: In terms of Yale, I just got an email linking me to the website. First rejection of the 2011 season. I knew it was coming, but it still sucks.
  11. I'm hoping to hear from anybody in the next week. This waiting is killing me.
  12. I'm in a performance of the Vagina Monologues at my school, and since my significant other is a photographer, he and his business partner are coming down to the show to take professional photos for us. So technically, we aren't doing anything, but we'll be together. ...although we live together so that's really nothing new. natsteel: CONGRATULATIONS!! You asking your girlfriend to marry you makes me feel happier that you got into Yale. If getting in there makes such a thing easier for you, logistically, then I wish you all the best! And she'll totally say yes!!!
  13. I wanted to apply to Brown for this application series, but with Gordon Wood's retirement a few years ago (which depressed me deeply when I found out!) Brown was definitely out. I'd love to meet him though. I don't think he's written a book that I don't have or haven't used thus far. Colin Calloway was so shocked when I told him I loved his work; apparently history professors/writers don't believe they're superstars?

    Yale

I'm hoping this lack of news means I haven't been rejected outright. Fingers crossed here too!
  15. I met Eric Foner last year at the OAH annual meeting in D.C. I also got to meet, and talk at length with, Colin Calloway, who is one of the foremost Native American scholars. While I'm not a Native American historian, it was awesome to meet someone whose books I'm using for pieces of my thesis (he wrote a book called A Scratch of the Pen about the Proclamation of 1763, which is the year my thesis begins, chronologically). It was kind of awesome.

Where in the application does it give you your decision? I checked a bit ago (before I came onto the forum) and mine still said "submitted" under application status. Is that where the decision will be?
  17. I hope you don't mind, but this made me LOL for the first time in days, so I'm gonna steal it for my signature.

    Yale

I've heard that Yale's application deadline was later this year than last year, so it's possible that it's taking them a bit longer than last year to start sending out decisions. Fingers crossed!!
  19. So I'm thinking I'm going to unbookmark GradCafe from my browser. Spending all my time on this site and getting depressed is no way to live....

  20. End zone
  21. Congratulations. That's awesome. ...although part of me does hate you a little bit, because I want to get into Yale too!!!
  22. double dare
  23. I haven't contacted the department, mostly because, for me, if it's bad news, I don't want to hear it from a person. If it's good news, hooray, but at the same time, if it's good news, I'd rather have something in hand (an email or a letter) to show people so they don't think I'm just screwing with them (which, in my family, isn't outside the realm of possibility). I'd wait it out for a bit longer. It's still early in the decision making process.
  24. Um....42? I'm wondering...is this that new math I keep hearing about? I'm a historian--we don't really do math....like that.. I can add though!!!! Does that count?!?!?! omigodwhatisthisidonteven....
  25. But...but....but what if no one wants me?!?!?!?!? this also goes back to a personal conversation I had about my life with an old friend the other day...sad, really...
