  1. Hello. Sorry to resurrect a dead topic, but I figure it's better than creating a new one when this is still on the 1st page. of the index. Ayway, how about for computers? I got accepted into Master of Computing in ANU and Master of Software Systems Engineering in Melbourne Uni, and I'm having trouble as well deciding where to go. I know that ANU is generally ranked higher than Melbourne in terms of University rankings, but what about their Computer Depts? I haven't seen an equivalent of the US News Graduate CS Programs Rankings for Australia. Also, which city has a better IT industry for working after grad? I've never been to Australia, but as for the difference between the cities, Melbourne definitely seems to win there. But having lived in a big, crowded, noisy, and lively city all my life, the country-towninsh feel of Canberra does hold a certain appeal for me to try out and see how it's like. Both are most certainly better than where I am now at least. Thanks for the help.
  2. Hi patmac, Was the application website updated to reflect the rejection?
  3. What do you guys think about a coursework masters? Are they worth anything? Are they easier to get into than research masters?
  4. Sigh. This was just too sick. So I called the USC Admissions department and they said yet again that "a decision has not yet been made on my application." So most likely they sent this to all applicants as well. Phbbt. Thanks USC for getting my hopes up and all.
  5. Anyway to delete this topic? I reposted this in the Waiting it out section as I figured this was more suited there. Sorry for the mistake mods.
  6. This morning I got an email from USC which says "Dear USC Viterbi Engineering Student, Thank you for your application to the Dean's Master's Fellowship for the University of Southern California Viterbi School of Engineering. I regret to inform you that you were not selected for the scholarship. It was a very difficult decision as the response to this program was greater than anticipated and highly selective. We had numerous outstanding applicants, yours among them. I hope that you will still be attending USC this Fall and am certain you will have a rewarding and enjoyable experience." Now, I don't mind not getting the fellowship as I really didn't think that I had a real shot at it. However, I haven't seen or heard any decision on my application from USC ever since I applied a few months ago. Does this mean I'm in? It called me a "Viterbi Engineering Student" and "hope that you will still be attending USC this fall..." Am I reading too much into it? Did they send this to all waiting or even rejected applicants?

  8. Still waiting for a decision as well, MS Computer Science in my case. I checked their history in Grad Cafe and they were still accepting and rejecting people all the way through May so we still might have a long way to wait
  9. Applied for an MS CS back in Jan, still haven't heard from them, although I really am pessimistic by now and consider myself as good as refected. Since it's a rolling admission, how much more do we usually have to wait? Is it possible that we'll be going through June and July still waiting and hearing nothing?
  10. Seems they're informing PhD applicants already. Any MS CS applicants heard from them already? I think they're my last hope
  11. Was the visit day solely for PhD students or were MS CS students there as well?
  12. Ok, thanks for the info. Hope we get our results out soon.
  13. Applied for an MS in my case. When did you submit your app? Completed mine first week of Jan and still no word till now. I'm getting really, really, really pessimistic about my chances
  14. What's the url for the NYU student website?

Good luck MDLee! Let me know how it turns up with USC. I'm still waiting to hear anything from them regading my app and will be calling/emailing them as well by next week. *mumble grumble*
  16. Same here, haven't heard from USC, UC Irvine, UC Davis, and NYU yet. Must be my luck to have applied to 4 schools which which would release their results late this year
  17. Being in limbo sucks. I work for HP and my manager just told me they're "promoting" me to a project manager role come June, and I should start taking extra trainings already to prepare myself. How do I tell him I might not last that long IF I get in, as a professional courtesy? And I don't get in, I'd like to stay here for the forseeable future too. Sucks that too many good things are happening only right after I submitted my applications  Gah, I'm getting to be a frigging nutcase...
  18. Anyone applied to their CS program? I completed my app last Feb 5 and still no word till now. I'm probably sending them an email if I don't hear anything by March 13. Patience, grasshopper...
  19. Try for an MBA next year as it seems there's no more hope for me in academia.
  20. How did they inform you about your acceptance? Email? Was your acceptance reflected on the online application website? Congratulations btw.
  21. Hi tedjj, if you don't mind me asking, when did you finish completing your application to USC? And how did they inform you that you were accepted? I was wondering if they were gonna update the application status on the application website to let us know how our applications went. Mine's still stuck at "Submitted" after 2 frigging months already.
  22. Hi GoodGuy, was this for USC? I applied there as well and was wondering if they were gonna update the application status on the application website to let us know how our applications went. Mine's still stuck at "Submitted" after 2 frigging months already.
