  1. Appointment last Thursday, passport arrived yesterday (Tuesday) - pretty impressive! I'm from England.
  2. As an international student I would be happy to set up a US bank account with just a debit (ATM) card. However, is it possible to get a cell plan with just a debit card? When I've looked at some plans online it seems like they want monthly payments paid with a credit card only. Is this always the case?

    Cell Phones

Thanks for the heads up Stories and FSIA!! I'm heading to AU and they have deals with AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. T-mobile is definitely the cheapest ($29.99) for the most basic plan but from what you've said it looks like I should avoid this and have a look at what deals I can get with AT&T?

    Cell Phones

I am an international student looking at phone plans too. The cheapest monthly contract I have found so far is $29.99 with TMobile USA. They say they are the fourth biggest provider in the States. Does anyone know if they're good, I will be in the DC area?

  6. Hey firefly, I'll be starting at SIS in the fall for the International Politics program. I won't be at the accepted students day as I'm English.
  7. Exactly the same two programs as you guys. Any idea on when Pitt are going to accounce funding?!!
  8. My calculations for SIS are as follows: Tuition per credit hour = $1,237 and most programs are 39 credits Thus total Tuition = 39 x $1,237 = $48,243 Mandatory Fees: SIS Program fee = $750 per sem Sports Center fee = $65 per sem, Technology fee $95 = persem, Graduate activity fee = $30 per sem, So total fees $940 (all fees) x 4 semesters = $3,760 AU Health Insurance = $1,440 annually, so $2,880 AU estimated Living Costs (per year): Room = $13,613 Board = $5,547 Books = $900 Transport = $1,867 Personal = $2,200 Total = $24,127 per year Georgetown estimate (per year) = $21,396 per year My estimate = $22,000 per year, so $44,000 overall Thus Tuition (48,243) + Fees (3,760) + Health (2,880) + Living (44,000) = $98,883 total estimate for two years Adjust accordingly depending on your own factors. eg. health insurance waiver, scholarships, frugal lifestyle etc. If you have to take a language I have budgeted this will cost
  9. Just received an email from Georgetown: "Thank you for your application for a scholarship from the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University. Unfortunately, our funds are limited, and we receive more requests than we can accommodate. I am afraid we will not be able to offer you a scholarship at this time." Makes my decision much easier as at $90,000+ Georgetown is a definite no! Almost definitely off to American SIS and really excited about it! Good luck to all you guys still waiting on funding.
  10. Wow! How does this work? Do you know if this is the case at American SIS too?
  11. Wow - I have exactly the same dilemna! I have the same financial offer from American (essentially a full ride) and have just got into Georgetown too. At American my program is MA International Politics and at Georgetown it's the SSP. Georgetown will announce funding in the next week or so but even if I were to receive the full offer (tuition waiver), two years of living in DC would be pretty expensive! Looking forward to answers to this thread! Thank you
  12. I got my funding package today via email too and I'm also an international student. For the record, it was an out-of-state tuition waiver and $4k a year. Very nice to receive something, but when all my other schools have offered me packages worth $20-40k I'm not sure how much it will influence my decision. Good luck to all you guys!
  13. I received an email earlier today for the SSP although I am an international student if that means anything?
  14. I just got accepted into the SSP via email about 2 hours ago!
  15. I don't want to take the thread off topic but I see this mentioned quite a lot. What would you say count as top 10 IR programs?
  16. As an international student without much knowlegde of US schools / programs I would love to know what people think of American SIS. I have just been accepted to the MA International Politics with a nice funding offer. Thank you!
  17. I know a number of us on here were accepted to UGA for either the MA or PHD program way back in early February. Just wondered if anyone had heard any news about funding yet? Thanks!
  18. The program looks really good. I've applied to the Security & Intelligence track but haven't heard anything yet. When did you receive your email?
  19. Nah I'm still waiting. Starting to worry ...
  20. Yup still waiting. My surname begins with S if that's of any interest!
  21. Yeah you're not alone, I'm still waiting too!
