  1. Almost immediately after submitting applications my thesis began to change direction. My current topic (that won't change since there is no time for it to) is only slightly related to what I wrote about in my applications, but more closely correlates to the work of two of my potential advisors. I realize that it's usually frowned upon to contact profs when decisions are being made, but is it worth taking a risk and sending out an e-mail addressing the issue?
  2. Oh yes...there were a few that I didn't apply to out of sheer laziness and although I haven't been rejected anywhere yet, I'm still quite uneasy. I got even more stressed when I read about the increases in applications this year...at least we're all stressed together though!
  3. I've actually already fled the country so I'm a step ahead of you Lizzle But if nothing pans out I'll have to go into hiding.
  4. Congrats! I was going to apply there, but got lazy. Looks like I should have! (at least I would have heard back from a uni already)
  5. For one of the universities I applied to, people have been receiving rejections, but not accpetances...and they use a similar system to what you describe (e-mail sent when status is updated). So maybe it's a good thing if you don't hear from them! Means you weren't in the batch of rejections. The possibilities are truly endless...
  6. You know how stressed I am? It's 4am where I'm at and I can't sleep due to anxiety! :/ Maybe I should embrace it and try to be productive....
  7. I think it's too early to tell. By the time we would finish our PhD's the economy won't be how it is now. With that said, you shouldn't get a PhD (especially in anthro) with your only goal being to get a job. If that is your goal then you're probably right about getting an MA.
  8. I've never been to Canterbury, but what I've heard it's lovely and despite being a small town, there is big student population...so while it certainly won't feel like NYC, it's not like your in the middle of South Dakota or something. Plus London is only 1.5 hours away if you need an escape! I am attending university in England at the moment and I'd say the best part about it is travel. During the winter months you can find dirt cheap flights around Europe. I'm flying to Dublin for St. Patty's Day and my roundtrip airfare was $20!!!
  9. Robsoc7, If you want a guided tour of the city/university then you should send me a message before you come over.
  10. I feel you! I applied to GWU Hominid Paleo. and haven't heard anything from them...and since some phone calls and interviews have already been made I'm assuming it's a rejection. But then again, maybe it's different for me since I'm currently overseas. Who knows! That's the awful part! Sometimes I wish the internet didn't exist! (Please don't strike me down internet gods...)
  11. Well, even though many of the posters on here are phys anth, we still have it easier (with regard to admission competition) than our cultural anth friends!
  12. it's a lot harder with cultural because there are so many sub-specialties...I'm sure many that I don't even know exist!
  13. You can tell that your specializing in physical based on the programs you're applying to Just like I bet 'sunshine' is interested in forensic anth...
  14. If you have funding at Cambridge then that would certainly be my choice. Plus, cost of living shouldn't be an issue for the next year or two since the pound is so weak against the dollar (actually against everything).
  15. I've heard that most students apply with just a BA...I'm currently a master's student as well, but just because we're the majority (so far) on this board doesn't mean that it extends to reality (it probably just means we're procrastinating and should be writing our theses).
  16. Obviously the OP is a master's students, but are the rest of you applying with an MA or BA?
  17. Hi all, Like everyone else I haven't heard anything yet and I'm not holding my breath. My subfield is physical and I actually applied to a few of the same places you did erudite.
