  1. Yay! I'm glad someone finally heard back from York. Thank you for your advice. I'll be checking my junk folder as well. If I don't hear anything by 4pm, I'll email them. Tomorrow is gonna be a rough day... but at least I know it should be a matter of hours...
  2. I'm thinking of contacting my program. They said all decisions would be out by March 31st, and I still haven't heard a thing.
  3. I'm waiting for York U as well. My department said they'd have decisions out by March 31st. I think they are waiting until the very last minute.
  4. Mine also reads 'No Decision Yet'. I think a lot of us are on the same boat.
  5. Good luck to you Foreign! I'm pretty sure we'll keep this thread alive. There's still plenty of us waiting on Canadian schools...
  6. I only applied to one school and that set me back $90CAD.
  7. For me, it's good ol' pastrami.
  8. Good to know I'm not the only one. There have been a lot of results lately on the results board, so I'm getting worried.
  9. I hope you're right! I noticed a lot of MA results on the board a few days ago, but there's still nothing from my department. Good luck to you too!
  10. Still nothing from York U. Why are they taking so long?
  11. It's not that hard assuming you've been living together for quite some time. The CIC defines common law status as any relationship in which the couple has been living together for at least one year. I recently applied for permanent residence, and I filed under common law status. I had to send a lot of documents to prove it: a copy our lease, a statutory declaration of common law union, notarized letters from family and friends, pictures, post-cards, emails, phone records, a letter from our landlord, etc. It's safe to assume the CIC will require this type of evidence if your boyfriend decides to apply for an open work permit. Here's the definition straight from Canada Revenue: Hope this helps.
  12. Congrats on your acceptance! As you mentioned, you need to be married or in a common-law relationship for your partner to get an open work permit while you study in Canada. There's really no way around that. Your boyfriend could try to find a job in Canada and then apply for a temporary work visa. If you decide to go that route, you need an offer of employment and a labour market opnion. Getting a Labour Market Opinion takes about 5-9 months, so he'll be without a job for quite some time, and even then, you don't know if the LMO will be positive or negative. It's a really lengthy and complicated process. Some jobs don't require LMO, so check if your boyfriend falls into that category: http://www.cic.gc.ca...-who-permit.asp If so, you are in luck! I hope this helps. You could also check out http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/index.php and ask this question over there. 13. Me too! My program adviser at York told me they would have all decisions by March 31st. So t minus 10 days for me.
  14. I'm also a minority. I've been to Calgary quite a few times, and I've never experienced any kind of discrimination. The supremacist groups are more common than you think, but they are a very small group of the population, so I think it's unfair to give a city a bad name just because of a few rotten apples. Sadly, you are gonna find those people any where you go. I don't think you should be worried. Calgary is a great city, and I'm sure you won't have any problems. Good luck!

  16. Just got an email from York U Grad Admissions saying they had received my application. It's a little worrisome considering I sent my application about 5 months ago. Myfile still says "no decision." I'm assuming the program just sent my application back to graduate admissions, so I'm expecting a rejection... Most admits get notified by email from the program.... Did anyone else get this email?
  17. This cute baby might cheer some people up. And yeah.... still no news for me.

  19. You got that right. I'm always amazed at the fact that Kingston has 13 federal prisons. Isn't that over-kill? I'm not Canadian, but I've been living here since 2007, so you can say I'm fairly Canadianized. I'm currently awaiting permanent residence so I'm very excited. I haven't heard back from my school (York U) either, so I can totally relate. Why do Canadian schools take so long!? Molson cold shots remind me of my younger, wilder days...

    Toronto, ON

I wouldn't. And Engin33r, I see plenty of cars with Buffalo plates in Toronto, so I don't think you have to worry about getting Ontario plates as long as you are commuting back and forth.
  23. Hey! I'm from Puerto Rico as well. I did my B.A at UPR-RP. I'm not going to be studying in the States this fall though. I'm hoping to get accepted to a Canadian school, so we'll see. I'm already living here in Canada, so... yeah. If I don't get accepted this season, I'll probably apply to schools in the States next year. What about you? Are you still in PR? Nice to see another Puerto Rican in here.
