  1. Me! Me! Me! I want to go into museum work, either exhibition development or education/interpretation. I especially like working with non-western or modern art, because thats typically what people are not familiar with.
  2. I think all the stress and waiting is getting to us. Lets all mellow out on that front and debate the merits of this article (its short): http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/jonathanjonesblog/2010/feb/16/art-history-michelangelo-courtauld-institute Okay, its not a great distraction, but we sure need one.
  3. Congrats to all the admits (esp. Columbia, as that will be my dream school when I apply for a phd) Are all the admits phds? When do MA admits come out? I've heard nothing from anyone!
  4. Is there anyone else who applied to Museum Studies or Arts Administration? And has anyone heard anything?
  5. These sound like way more legitimate ideas than that darn GRE.
  6. Gah! My mistake.... now if only I could figure out how to edit my post and correct that.
  7. A professor of mine once made a compelling argument that his field (fine arts) advanced humanity and that all other fields were too "stuck in the present". Not that I am bias either way, but he did get a lot of attention for that.
  8. I'd buy it! Think about what they pieces could be ... Jeff Koon's Puppy and the Column of Trajan! /dork. My studio arts friends and I would play art history pictionary to study for our intro to art history exams.
  9. sorry, double post.
  10. Fact from my Conservation of Art Materials: 1. In the middle ages, the pigment dragonblood was believed to be the result of a dragon sitting on an elephant. 2. The pigment Indian yellow has only one historical record discussing its origin, a cow would be force-fed mangos and the urine would be collected and dried for its color.
  11. @thomasjnh, Congrats! At least one of us has some feedback, and positive feedback too!
  12. Does anyone actually reply, "Yeah, I'll admit this is my safety. I don't want to go here in the worst way." ?
  13. NEVER trust Kaplan for anything. Don't assume your professors will submit things in a timely manner.
  14. A friend of mine did it tastefully. She got into an ivy dental school and joined the group "University of X Dentistry, class of 2014" and it was public, so we all saw it on our news-feed. Its a friend who I don't keep in contact with too often, but I was glad she let us know, so I was able to congratulate her on something she worked so hard to achieve.
  15. Oomph. This waiting is making me nervous. When do we actually hear back from these places? The application deadlines I did so far were Dec 1, Jan 15, Feb 1st and rolling. I wish the told us you will hear back by xyz. With everyone else waiting, I commiserate.
  16. One of the schools I applied to listed about 25 types of degrees EXCEPT b.f.a. which is what I have. I had to put "other" which made me nervous. I hope this doesn't count against me, because a bfa is a pretty common degree.
  17. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I'm sorry, I just had to scream with people who would commiserate. Thank you for your time.
  18. Any timetable on DC schools? Art history or Museum Studies? ... I'm beginning to get nervous each time I check my email/mail.
  19. Where ever I am at the moment, run around in circles jumping up and down screaming like a freak, but after that: 1. Mom/Dad and Grandmother 2. Text message to BFFs and BF 3. Facebook status 4. Forum, duh! 5. LoRs
  20. My prof had trouble with "ApplyOnline" (the other embark-like site) and it was because he was using safari. I think it worked on firefox. good luck!
  21. FYI, as of January 1st ETS has increased the fee to send score reports from $20.00 to $23.00. I can spend an extra three dollars, but I am livid at the audacity of these people. Note that the website STILL says $20. and when I called to send the score (and question which price was correct), the person who answered replied, "we haven't gotten around to changing the website yet." Ugh - this better be worth it.
  22. If I could entirely change who I am and what I am good at, I would be a surgeon. I'm in awe of being able to perform surgeries and save lives. Now if only I was good in math and science....
  23. Imho, once a professor, always a professor. Adding formerly creates doubt as to why isnt he there anymore (fired? quit? or an entirely legit and respected reason). Perhaps "Professor XYZ, formerly of University X" or "Professor of Insert-topic-here".
  24. I just finished J.M. Coetzee's Waiting for the Barbarians. First thought after I finished: no wonder he got a Nobel prize in literature....
  25. My reach school has two deadlines, priority and regular. I can have my application in by either deadline. Which deadline increases my admissions chances? Does priority mean less people apply, or that the stakes are higher? help!
