  1. Any word from Dr. Ray about when MA applicants will be notified?
  2. I finally just started putting people into two categories when they wanted to talk about the grad school application process...ignorant and informed. I know ignore all of the annoying comments from the ignorant group and seek solace from the informed. As a side note, can I just vent about how incredibly frustrating it is to work in a place where all of my co-workers have received their MBAs through online/distance programs that ANYONE can get into while thinking that my programs are the same way. They also believe that our degrees will be comparable and that I'm insane for even considering quitting my job to go to grad school. FML.
  3. I will be having surgery on my broken wrist on V-day which will culminate with a drug-induced stupor where I pray no schools will call me for fear of saying something stupid or wildly inappropriate. It might be a good day to just turn my phone off. Being single, I'm not a huge fan of Valentine's Day anyway.
  4. Waiting is hard! To make it worse I broke my wrist on Saturday so I'm stuck at home with nothing to do but take pain killers, eat, sleep, read, watch TV, and obsess over grad school. To make it worse, I just found out I'm going to need surgery on my wrist next week which will keep me laid up for a while. Oh well, c'est la vie! Now if i could just figure out how to scratch an itch below my cast then life would be so much brighter...
  5. I thought I was being unproductive...until I broke my wrist a few days ago. Now I have absolutely nothing to distract me from the physical pain from my wrist and the emotional agony of waiting. Bring on the painkillers!
  6. I know EXACTLY what I plan on doing if I get accepted to grad school! 1. Quit my job in mid-June 2. Pack/store stuff 3. Backpack Europe for a few weeks with my brother 4. Spend a couple of weeks relaxing at my parents house in sunny Florida 5. Spend last couple of weeks moving and getting settled Wish I could have more time between quitting my job and starting school, but I have to work to pay for my European adventure! It's so fun to dream about such happy things. Cheers!
  7. - Don't worry, I heard McDonald's is hiring. - Well, there's always next year
  8. I feel exactly the same way! It's so hard to work when I'm always wondering. I guess I'm going to have to figure out a way to cope with the anxiety seeing as it's not just going to go away tomorrow. Let me know if you come up with any brilliant ideas!
  9. I figured I'd chime my two cents into this thread. I visited three out of the four schools I'm applying to because I happened to be traveling there anyway for work. Being from a small town in Idaho I knew that it would be overwhelmingly expensive to visit the schools even if they invited me for a recruitment weekend. School #1 - Extremely helpful in that the MA director met with me, took me around to various professors, and allowed me to chat with current students. She even took me out for coffee which was really nice. I initiated everything over e-mail, so she was expecting me and had plenty of time to plan a few things on my behalf. School #2 - I did my very best to initiate a meeting both by phone and e-mail and was unsuccessful in all attempts, so I just showed up at the school with the hope of catching someone that could tell me a little bit about the program. The student secretary of the dept. was extremely unhelpful. I finally managed to wrangle the office numbers of a few professors I was hoping to me. All three professors weren't in their offices so I started meandering around the building. One professor came up to me and asked me if he could help me with anything. I explained that I was visiting from Idaho and that I was looking into the MA program and was hoping to talk to someone about it. He generously brought me to his office, chatted with me about the school and then proceed to set up appointments with whoever he could find that he thought it would be helpful for me to meet. I was overwhelmed with kindness and attention. I even had professors coming to look for ME! Such an impromptu and warm reception told me everything I wanted to know about the dept. It was a great experience. School #3 - I, once again, coupled this visit with a work trip. It was in early Dec. and unfortunately, the school was already out on Christmas break. I did manage to meet with the MA English secretary, but she didn't tell me anything that I hadn't already gleaned from the website. Still, it was nice to see the campus and the building the English dept. is housed in. I don't know if this has been helpful at all, but I really felt like it was worth my time to visit prospective schools on my own. I was able to apply to the schools with more knowledge, and it helped me ascertain whether or not I would be a good fit. Cheers!
  10. I'm not realistically expecting to hear from any schools until March, but at least I can hope that something will happen in February! Did anyone else feel like January took FOREVER? I'll admit it; grad school apps or no grad school apps, I'm a January hater. So glad it's over! Yay for February!
  11. Read through all of the threads in this forum about waiting it out and you'll know you're not alone. You may even find helpful (or not so helpful) ways to pass the time. Cheers!
  12. waiting place (for all of you Dr. Suess fans out there!)
  13. So, despite my best efforts to provide dental floss, my Dad has this vile, disgusting habit of using paper to floss his teeth (gross, I know). So, I'm going to save my rejection letters for him to floss his teeth. Maybe I'll burn at least one of them...
