AHHH! I was accepted at SUNY Binghamton!!! Just decided to check the website for the last time today/weekend (it goes down for maintenance Sat and Sun). No info other than "Accepted! Congrats!"
-
That makes me feel better at least! Geez. Seems like Euro History is falling out of fashion in some places.
-
Okay, I just emailed BC about decisions. I keep expecting my rejection to be in the mailbox, but again today there was NOTHING AT ALL. And I know the mail came!
-
Maybe she's not in a position to advocate for you? From what you described, it seems like if the other Jewish History (or broader subfielder) declines, then your in. If that person doesn't, you might not get in. She might not be able to fight to get you an acceptance if a British History person declines. Don't think that she doesn't believe in you for the PhD. As I've been told, sometimes an MA is a needed stop along the way for the PhD. She's probably making you feel better about your chances of attending that dream school of yours!!!

Wulf Kansteiner! His research fits my interests soooo well! But I didn't contact him before hand, so I've been in the dark about that school.

I think rankings within fields (and subfields) is largely in part due to the success of the scholars in that field (or subfield). It would also have to do with what resources that school could offer you (like, if it was in New York, you'd have the opporunity to take classes at a variety of different colleges and universities. It might not affect the "ranking" per se, but you could have a lot more access to scholars and research that way). That said, I don't know much about African History other than what has been communicated by those in the field, such as Safferz.
-
I did! But for the MA program. Omg, I cannot wait two more weeks. It's my only other viable option left and I'm soooo desperate to know. What's your field?
-
You're probably being considered for MAPSS (or MAPPHSSES whatever), since no one has posted on the board that they were offered it.
-
That's so great, but jeez be prepare to be in limbo for soo much longer! But you can do it!
-
Treats for tears!

I agree. Also, his Katrina moment should be in the history books for the rest of forever. Just sayin'.
-
Don't worry, goldie! During take off (my least favorite part, along with landing), just close your eyes and focus on breathing!

I LOVE 90s alternative music. STP. The Toadies. I'm glad we're a bunch of awesome people. I'm glad you'll all by colleagues of mine someday! Sorry for my brevity, I am watching Downton Abbey and it's hard to tear away from the TV

Another BC reject via post! I wonder if the two posted are just closer to Boston than me.
-
AND SOME OF US listened to boy bands and played the original Pokemon in the 90s... okay you win.
-
Hahah, sorry I reminded you of your age, oseirus. But getonget is right, you're never too old for graduate school! Honestly, I'm beginning to lose track of time, because I had to think a minute on whether or not I was 22 or 23. I did forget my boyfriend had a birthday, so he is 23. Jeez, who forgets their age!
-
Yeah, we're both 22, but we've been in this a while now. We both took this year off, and we normally only see each other on the weekends nowadays. I'm trying to think that it'll be just a bunch of REALLY REALLY LONG weeks when we go to school. Hehehe.
-
Yeah. I'm waiting until next week when WashU will roll over.
-
I lied. No mail from BC. Stuck in limbo another day.
-
Abso-tively! It's what I did with UTD!
-
Right now, it looks like South Louisiana to Ohio. Tiniest chance of LA to Dallas (but if I do get funding for that MA, it will be much less than Miami). It's sooo far away! But I know we can make it work and that it'll be beneficial to us in the long run (you know, it's easier to study when you don't want to cuddle all day ).

It makes me ridiculously sad to think about being apart from my boyfriend from 2-3 years. He's going to law school and will remain in-state while I go where I need to go. I wish we could have plan out stuff better, but there was no way around it.
-
Well, it seems like I will get my BC rejection today since someone got one via mail. Oh well, at least it's some news to spice up this place!
-
Today shall go down in history as Columbia's Slaughter of the Humanities. Sorry guys

I was told a while ago that every base had at least one historian employed, but it was second hand information that I can't verify. I volunteered briefly on an air force base in the museum. They were working on a oral history project in conjunction with another local museum. I would say another employer of military historians would be museums, whether on base or not. But, since most museums are normally dedicated to one or two specific wars, I think there wouldn't be mass opportunity there either.
