Except for OSU.... or... UW....

Okay, so here's a question: The DGS told me I would indeed be working with my POI. I was one of those people who didn't contact them before I applied, so how do I go about introducing myself this time? I mean obviously he would know my research interests at this point (hopefully). I want to just say "hey my name is ______ and I'm very excited to be working with you in the fall. If you have any questions about me, ask!" But that just seems... meh. HALP

I cannot WAIT until you choose. Your story is like a good murder mystery. Every time I open a thread where you've commented I expect to find out who the killer really is.

I said this in the Chit Chat forum, but I'll repeat it again here since this is the correct place! I decided on Binghamton University! Congrats to everyone else making decisions (and to those still deciding, you definitely deserve a congrats for the tough choices you've been given!).

I too will be going to Binghamton in the fall and hoping to move in August as well. I need a pet friendly place that allows for more than just one animal (including one hefty corgi that's well over 20 lbs and definitely over 25..)!

Status: One year post-undergrad, starting MA program in the Fall. One of my professors would always ask questions about books that could only be answered if you read the acknowledgements. Now, I always at least skim the acknowledgements even if it's a book I'm reading for myself. There are some books (that I read for myself) that I feel guilty for just skimming that part. This has become my burden in life! I have no idea if this will make a difference in grad school, but you better damn well believe I'll do it anyways.

What size laptop do you use?

I have a 14" or 15" Sony Vaio that I've had for four years now... it's not very portable and is very outdated, but we've been through a lot and it's still running decently enough for internet/netflix and word processing. Sony is like Apple, in that, you're paying mostly for the name, but I got one because I knew it would last (my HP died after a year) and hey, it has! -
I just accepted my offer to Binghamton this morning! My happy mood was dampened by bitches at work though. Still excited!

I love my Vera Bradley micro-fiber/nylon bags, so I second this choice.

Well, go back to that part of the thread where everyone was telling me how much more awesome they were after they got through their MA program. It definitely helped me! And I'll be glad to have a familiar face when that time comes around (and one that posts waaayyy more than me )

Haha, as someone who grew up both Catholic and Irish, MOCK EVERYONE! And thanks! I'm lurking to make sure I see where everyone else ends up (and who I might be reapplying with in two years).

I definitely drifted away from this place. I'll provide an update for those who are curious and for posterity's sake. I was on the waitlist for funding at Binghamton (MA), but about a week after I was notified of this fact, I was released funding. Pending some answers to some questions I have, I have a feeling I might end up there. Miami is still in second place. I will probably decline my spot at UTD soon. Also, today in the mail I finally got a response from BC. Denied from PhD (which I was already notified of) but accepted in the MA program. I doubt there is funding, so I will probably decline that as well. Still nothing from Notre Dame. Seems like they took my money and ran!

I'm telling you, UGA is the worst about notifying people in a timely fashion. I waited until like April 1st last year.
-
I received my rejection from BC on Friday via email from department. Woo. They stated I should have already been informed and misspelled my last name. Definitely made me feel special and not forgotten about one bit. I was out of town most of the weekend though so that was nice.

Today has sucked so bad. Come on Binghamton, send some good news my way.

Recently started Eric Larson's In the Garden of Beasts. It's very good so far. Although, I'm pretty much over his style of writing which goes "Whole Chapter relevant to one subject. LAST SENTENCE: BUT something else will happen later that relates, and I'm not going to tell you now." Every. Single. Chapter.

Chit Chat: To make myself feel better, I just purchased myself the new iPad! Maybe that new voice dictation feature will come in handy at the wonderfully funded masters program of my choice (you hear that Binghamton!?). In a weeks time, I will be unable to distinguish the pixels of gradcafe.
-
Another day of nothing for me. I think BC is ignoring/has forgotten about me. Whomp whomp.
-
UGH, what's taking BC so long!?! Still no letter. Still no email reply from the grad assistant.
-
Did they say they would email people about the funding decisions? One post recently said "letters would be out" and I don't want to wait for a letter!
-
I wonder if today will be the day I receive some sort of communication from BC, either by email (which I solicited) or post. Is there anybody else out there still waiting to hear from Boston College? Just curious.

Got my official (automated) email from the Graduate School about my acceptance to Binghamton. It says that the department will contact me if I've been award funding. Here's hoping I get another email today!!!
