  1. Happy kind of first week of March! Let's do this guys!
  2. "Application Status: Complete and ready for review." Then review it already!!
  3. Another BC admit was posted a while ago. Sigh. I've been so distracted during work this week and this place definitely isn't helping! Though it has been a pretty boring week (I would have thought otherwise). Watch next week be lame for everyone too!
  4. I know my undergrad just hired a political scientist out of Stony Brook. I know that the polisci dept. at Stony Brook is on the up and up, so I'm not sure how this would relate to the history dept. (At my UG, history and polisci are in one department, it makes no sense, but neither does my school as a whole). BUT, we are definitely outside of the Northeast and it was a tenure-track position at a SLAC, which is often desirable. I would ask someone in the department for placement records. I'm sure they'll happily supply them to you.
  5. Pretty much. I wish the rejection letters/emails would just be for real. "Eh, your application was pretty good, but there were 20 people that were amazing and fit our interests, and then about 15 more that were less impressive that we would still take over you. You'll probably get in somewhere, probably not your dream school, but at least an unfunded MA. Have fun paying us another 60-100 dollars in another one to two years. We might not take you, but we'll never not take your money."
  6. Anyone want to claim the BC master's acceptance? Man, I wish they would just tell me what's up so I can cross them off my list because if they're the only MA receiving financial aid then I'm definitely not hoping for anything.
  7. UGA takes their damn time with decisions, fyi. Be prepared to wait that out.
  8. Ooohhh, you and I have the same life (and job). Except there is nothing sneaky about my postings while at work.
  9. I'll send you a pm.
  10. I would say so! Mine was one of the ones that said "under review" and I got a rejection! No news is good news!

    Need Advice!

I think most people would agree, if you get one funded offer to a grad school and it's something that you know you want to do, you should take that opportunity, because you never know if you would get another funded offer a year from now. Don't give up just yet! MA programs typically notify after they notify PhDs. Now if you don't get in anywhere (conversly, if you get into an MA but without funding), I would take the opportunity. Sure it might not be exactly what you want to study, but you will develop the language. Maybe your focus will shift and then you will have the ability to research and write a relevant writing sample for next time!
  13. Yeah mine was post as well. I think the website updated a couple of weeks later.
  14. Boston College and Binghamton adcoms, can you please PM the results of my recent application to your programs? I checked the websites and nothing has changed. I'm wondering if I'll get to go to your programs this fall... I'm not making fun, I promise.
  15. I think that people outside of the research can't comprehend how people do deal with it. I know I'm used to it, but when we read Ordinary Men by Browning there were times when it did get overwhelming and I had to stop. Then again, I did take 20th Century Europe and Holocaust in Film, Literature and Art at the same time so the entire semester was a bit of a downer.
  16. More like a rich Dr.
  17. Oh, my interview for this job turned into my boss talking about the kind of history he likes and random facts he knew (he majored in history before going to surprise... law school). All after I told him I studied history and wanted to go to grad school.
  18. For me, "Why don't you go to med school?"
  19. My boss: "So when are you leaving?" in a begrudging tone. Not soon enough
  20. "What'd you make on the GRE?" UGH
  21. Oh man, that is rather dumb. I was thinking about this yesterday while reading an article about the new affirmative action case that is going to be heard by the Supreme Court: Do you think that affirmative action exists at the graduate level (not talking about med or law school at all). Even if it does, I feel like there are far to many variables that would get in the way of proving that it occurred. ESPECIALLY when some places only admit 5-10 people. In all likelihood, she was wowed by your dashingly good looks.
  22. That's very odd. I'd would definitely email or call someone. I don't think I have contacted anyone at Binghamton. I know everywhere else I asked about the completeness of my app, they were very nice and pretty prompt!
  23. Did your's ever say "Complete and ready for review"? That's what mine says right now. When did all your stuff get in? Maybe they just haven't updated that part
  24. UGH! Another letter from the same school I've already been admitted too! I want NEW news!
  25. Did your program require two or three letters of recommendation? That's the only thing I can think of.
