AlwaysWaiting is right, I would like to plan if I will be on campus with an assistantship or in the field with the NSF grant. Last round it took four months to hear back. So hopefully they will be making announcements soon.

I am still waiting to hear from GSS. My status date and PO have not changed. My department might be hoping for a quick response as much as I am, since they are trying to finalize assistantships for the spring.

What is everyones favorite spots in Gainesville (restaurant, bars, markets, parks, hiking/biking trails, etc)?
  5. Only for a couple hours a day for the past few months... Bing maps also has the angled aerial photography which is great for checking out prospective apartments.

How is biking in Gainesville with the heat and humidity? Im starting to look into apartments and trying to factor in distance and transportation. If I lived 4-5 miles away, Id love to commute by bike over taking the bus. But is that miserable (and very sweaty) for several months out of the year? Would it be better to live within a mile or two of class? Thanks for any advice/insight.
  7. "Cage goes in the water, you go in the water. Shark's in the water. Our shark." I took some time between entering my MS program and am glad I did. The couple of my people in my program who came straight from undergrad were unsure of their research interests, less motivated, and generally struggled more then those who had taken some time develop their interests. You gain a lot more from grad school when you know what you want to study and its something you really love. Like sharks (Im a little jealous).
  8. Either way you are going to have to go through with the mildly uncomfortable process of turning one of them down. But on the bright side, Im sure they both will be great opportunities (ie there is no wrong choice, only two right choices). It sounds like you are leaning towards school A. If thats the case then dont let yourself be pressured into staying there. They wont be offended if you decline and it will only take a minute (or an email) to tell them so, and remember that this decision will determine the next few years of your life.
  9. Ill be joining you all in a few months. PhD in (Resource Conservation) Geography, and I am planning on taking the Tropical Conservation and Development concentration.
  10. While I see it dropping off sharply around now, I would also imagine that its only a few months till it starts to slowly build back up to the crescendo. Im sure that more users will stick around each year as the site becomes increasingly well known.
  11. Do you think there will be a major slum in the traffic on this site with application season winding down? I would love to see a graph of the data over the course of a year.
