I'm definitely having a hard time dealing with my waitlists. I don't really know how to think about them in view of my other acceptances. I feel really luck to have my acceptances and good offers. But I want to make sure I look into every option before going off lists. I'm very high on both of my waitlists, so it looks like they are really likely to turn into acceptances....

Hey, everyone! I'm a Maryland admit. I'll be purchasing a plane ticket today to make it out there for the visiting day. Looking forward to it! Has Professor Ray mentioned anything to anyone about if they can put us up for two nights? It would be strange to fly in on March 12 and then fly out on the evening of March 13, right? -

They said they would be making decisions by Monday. My guess is that means we will be hearing next week. -

Hey! I did just get that email from her. And I am planning on visiting! There is another student admitted from my university who is also going to visit, and we were going to arrange to go at the same time. If you'd wanted to plan to go at the same time as us, that would be great! -

You should really find a way to visit. Austin is an amazing city, and if I hadn't lived there for most of my life, I'd choose to live there for another 5-6 years in a heartbeat. Really do feel free to PM if you have any questions or anything--I can tell you things about the cost of living, the best places to live around the city, etc.... -

If you happen to be talking about visiting Austin, I can vouch for the city with all my heart. Feel free to ask me any questions you have about the city, or even the university. I'm a native-born and went to school there for undergrad. -

Whoops, I meant to answer your question at the same time. I'm very confused about this--I've been accepted to three of my schools and waitlisted at another two (on both waitlists I'm at the very top and have a good chance of acceptance off of it, or so I've been told). I know the three schools I've been accepted to are going to pay for visits, and one of the others is probably going to pay for a visit, though this is more uncertain. It's more a question of how much time I actually have right now, being that I'm writing my MA thesis. At this point, though, in order to make a decision, I do think I need to visit all of the three and possibly the waitlist that will pay for me to visit. And I'm not sure if another acceptance/waitlist will roll in out of the others yet--so there's that. -

They sounded really positive about my chances of admittance--so, part of me thinks they wait to release waitlist information for a while so that they can just admit people off of it instead of telling them they were originally waitlisted. I'm not sure I'm making sense? -

That Brandeis waitlist was me. I'm really sorry about that "other" and for causing anyone anxiety. I realize it was vague, but the way I found that out was through an email correspondence. I don't think they are releasing the waitlist information officially yet. At least, I'm not sure if they are, because I was the one who prompted their response email. -

Can anyone claim the Columbia acceptance? And if you can, was it a personalized email or a mass one? This seems like a sign that they are finished making their decisions, in which case I just want to know if not getting that email equates to being rejected. -

While I definitely agree that it isn't the most important part of the application, I think the CV can really help if you can use it to complement your transcripts--to highlight what's already there. Being Phi Beta Kappa and graduating with Highest Honors are honors I wanted to advertise, for instance, and I think my CV helped me with that. I also used that space to list the two conferences I've presented at during my MA, which ended up being really useful. A professor I interviewed with recently asked me about one of the papers I presented because the title I listed on my CV caught his eye. That turned into a really great conversation. The CV also gave me space to show that I made an effort to submit a paper for publication. I really don't think anyone expects you to get published, but I think showing you made the effort to submit isn't a bad thing to do. -

Congratulations!!!! And I'm glad you finally heard from them. I am getting a little frustrated that I haven't heard from them. The week before last week, they said last week. Last week, they said this week. And now, nothing. But I really am very happy for you! -

Okay, thank God. You probably got nominated for an extra fellowship? It was great meeting everyone. (I'd like to reveal my identity, but since I write on here so much, I'm rather embarrassed.)
