Emory acceptances
cicada123 replied to thenightsky's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Hey! I just wrote on the other Emory thread! And I haven't heard yet. Did you just get the call?? Or should I assume that since I haven't heard I'm not accepted? -
Emory Interviews Question
cicada123 replied to Gwendolyn's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Hey, everyone! It was great meeting all of you this past week. I see that some acceptances have been posted on the results board, and this tells me that the acceptances have all probably gone out. Could you tell me when you got the calls? Was it just a moment ago, or should I just assume that I'm waitlisted if I haven't gotten a call by now? I'm seriously just sitting and staring at my phone. Thanks! -

Oh, wait, never mind-- I see that you applied to "American Culture" there. So, scratch that. Congratulations on Ohio State, Indiana, and Wisconsin! -

Thank you, Gwendolyn! You really don't have to answer this, but I was wondering how you know you've been rejected by Michigan already??? I haven't seen any results on the board about Michigan's English PhD.... -
Hey, everyone! For those of you admitted to the PhD program at BC, do any of y'all plan on visiting? And if so, would anyone want to arrange to visit at the same time?

On that same note, I was under the assumption that all admits are fully funded. So, are we talking fellowship offers on top of the full funding? Or are we talking full funding only for some students? (I don't know if that makes sense....). For the two schools I've already been accepted to I have been nominated for extra fellowships, more money on top of the full funding already provided to all admits. Is this the same at OSU? Also, for those of you who would certainly know this, does OSU have a waiting list or just a second pool of candidates? And if I haven't heard by now, is it likely that I'm going to be wait-listed or am in that second pool? -
That would be wonderful, Katja! Thank you! I'll be sure to let you know. I'm sure I'll have some questions.

I'm one of BC's Ph.D. acceptances as well, and I posted on the results board.

0% Confidence of Acceptance

I was on grad cafe a couple years ago, and one topic of conversation was about MAs being "second-class citizens" in comparison with the PhDs at any school they decided to attend. I did end up pursuing an unfunded MA, which has a great reputation. And recently, a professor (in an interview) commented on how great a program it was. I know it has helped me tremendously this round. Perhaps, people on the forums (with MAs) feel the need to defend them in some way, because over the years a nasty trend of talking about MAs as inferior has surfaced. There seem to be an equal number of PhDs and MAs accepted at a couple of the schools I'm considering at the moment. So, I completely understand that getting an unfunded MA is not viable for everyone (and honestly, it wasn't really for me either-- I have a great deal of debt from it), but for me it has led to five-six years of full funding (and a nomination for a fellowship on top of one offer). -

Yeah, I saw that. Maybe, they just accidentally selected "postal service" when they entered their results? -

Yes, they did tell me that. I think I was just expecting that "by the end of this week" would probably mean "at some point this week," and I was hoping that meant "early this week." So, I'm just being impatient. -

It's a fantastic place-- a friendly and comforting atmosphere, a nice city (even if small), a welcoming group of students. Honestly, you can't go wrong there. I'm there at the moment, and I don't have any complaints. Go for it. -

I am not understanding why I still don't have a decision from them. Why is my application still pending?? Tomorrow is FRIDAY. Do you have this same situation? -

Congratulations on Chicago! That's great! Would you mind letting us know if the email was personalized? If the same one was sent out to everyone, I can just assume the rejection and stop checking my inbox. -

Chicago results, oh crap! I hate waking up to find that there is a reason I'll be on the results board even more than usual today. -

I'm extremely tired of waiting for WashU. My daily ritual is now to wake up in the morning, get on gradcafe with a cup of coffee, and then check my WashU status page twice. I should get up and immediately start reading for my thesis, not this. -

I'm also still in review today. So, I emailed, and they said that admissions decisions would be finalized by the end of this week. They said to please hang in there.
