Passed my comprehensive exams! Now, to find someone to give me a PhD! ;-)

Comprehensive Exams are done. Now I wait for the defense, and hope I don't go crazy waiting to find out what I'm doing with my life.

COMPS TOMORROW... Like you know just before the top of the roller coaster when you start wondering if this will be as much fun as it is terrifying, or if you might just actually die in the next few minutes? ROFL Yeah, it will probably be alright... but there is a small chance I'll die ;-)

Georgetown interview was AWESOME! Now I just wish Western would contact me one way or the other. At least it is not just me though. It seems like only the clinical people have heard anything at all. *shrug*

Bring on the pre-interview, interview "I forgot to wear pants" dreams!

Just got an invite for a phone interview with the POI at Georgetown Psychology Department's Lifespan Cognitive Neuroscience program! So excited!!!

Checking on applications and writing papers from inside a hospital... :-( I wish my body could have waited a few more weeks :-(

So far, things are looking very promising... I am terrified of getting my hopes up though...

And MORE writing! Is it too arrogant to start a SoP with: Recently, a member of my departmental faculty asked me, “Where’s the fire?” she explained, “It’s not like you’re gunning for tenure.” Although, her advice to not rush and over-extend myself on a new project was well intended, I feel like the sentiment reflects how the unrelenting passion and commitment I have can be perceived as excessive to those who work at a different pace. In spite of the proffered advice, I went on to create a few of my own projects, gained an elected position in graduate student leadership, become a peer-mentor for undergraduate and graduate students learning statistics, and started a part-time position as a research assistant in a neuroscience lab. What I have come to understand about myself is that I often approach challenges from a perspective different from those around me, and perhaps more importantly, that I need to contribute; to a body of research, to my community, as a collaborator, as a leader, and as an advocate. ....?...
I mean I back it up, and it's meant to be an attention grabber...

Getting ready to work some advanced probability theory and do some writing! It only took 15 hours of sleep...

I am so ready for this. Yes, it is scary, but one way or another I'm going to make this happen.

Pre-writing SoP's... Going through the exercises from a book... ick...

Well that was amazing! Talked with one of the big names in the Education Neuroscience field, it was fun getting to discuss the challenges in the field without having to defend either education to a neuroscientist or neuroscience to an educator... She also said it sounded like I was in the right field on the right track and wished me luck on my applications.

Blarg! Just did the first serious dive into my PhD applications for the fall... *gag* I really hate this process... My prospects are MUCH better this time around, but thinking about all the stuff I need to do and all the emotional life-changing decisions involved *sigh* very stressful

Just had a prof in my master's program tell me that I wasn't gunning for tenure yet, *so don't worry about doing all this research *implied. LOL this person obviously doesn't know what things look like in the psychology field versus the education field *shrug* I can be a bad ass ;-)
