  1. Rutgers is ranked 41 for Civil Engineering Grad program in US News Ranking.
  2. Congrats. Hopefully I will get my decision by the end of this week.
  3. Anyone heard back from UIUC? I have heard they are having recruiting weekend this Friday?
  4. Sorry for you. I felt awful when I got rejected from Lehigh......
  5. Your stat looks great, especially undergrad GPA.....I have research experience....but my undergrad GPA is hurting me bad......
  6. The thing is that one of the professors from that university has been very positive to me from the beginning. He even said that admission is not going to be a concern for me and he is going to support my application for fellowship. But all of a sudden today I found out from the department website that they are hosting a recruiting weekend tomorrow and they have sent out all the invitations a couple of weeks ago. I didn't think about checking the department website on a regular basis. That's why I couldn't find it out earlier. I sent that professor an email regarding this today. But haven't got any reply yet. In the meantime I can't stop myself busting my brains out thinking about all the negative stuffs that could have happen to my chances.
  7. What if the school is having a recruiting weekend and I am not invited? What does it imply for my chances of admission or funding?
  8. What's the deal with this recruiting weekend/ visitation day? Who are generally invited to recruiting weekends? Is it applicable to only US applicants? Do internationals (US resident) also get invited? Is there any ground rule about it? I have seen some universities even sent out invitation to overseas applicants who are not going to make it to the visit. And What does this "not getting invited" thing imply for admissions and funding?

  10. Would you mind posting your stats? What are your research interests? Did you mention about any faculties in your SOP?
  11. Congrats on the invitation letter. It's one step closer to the acceptance and may be funding as well. When did you get your invitation and when is the visitation day? Did it come through email or by post?
  12. Got my first decision from Lehigh and it is a straight rejection. Didn't see this coming. Deeply disappointed.
  13. Any Lehigh or UCSD applicants? I have heard both these schools have already started sending out decisions.
  14. I know your case. But I was wondering if the fall applicants got any response or not.
  15. I have seen someone posted about acceptances from UIUC and VTech Civil Engineering Department. I am not sure whether they are structures or not. But have anyone of you heard back from any of these two schools?
  16. @edor1......congrats for Cornell acceptance.
  17. That's great. I got a strong response from Dr. Eatherton. That is the reason I applied to VTech. I talked to him couple of days back. He said admission is not going to be a concern for me and he is supporting my application for funding consideration. So if you and me both head to VTech, we might end up working in the same group.
  18. So are you heading to Virginia Tech? As you are awarded with a Fullbright Scholarship....You will not probably need any departmental funding like TA/RA/Fellowship...right? So which professor are you going to work with?
  19. BTW my stats are: Undergrad GPA: 3.18 (out of 4) --- from BUET (the highest ranked engineering university of my country) Grad GPA: 4.00 (out of 4) ---- from University of Akron, OH, USA GRE: Quant: 800, Verbal: 580, AW: 3.0 TOEFL iBT: 113 Research Experience: -Working as Graduate Research Assistant at UAkron since January 2011. -One conference paper and working on another journal paper (lead author) -worked on a thesis for undergraduate. 1 year of job experience Applied for PhD in Structural Engineering: UIUC. GaTech, Virginia Tech, Lehigh, UC San Diego, John Hopkins and Northeastern. Haven't heard anything back yet.
  20. Hey Guishediaz, Congrats for the positive decisions. When did you hear back from them? And when did you submit your applications? I have applied to UIUC, VTech and GaTech too; but haven't heard anything back yet.
  21. I think your MS GPAs are great too. And you have a couple of them.. All the best for your endeavor. At least someone posted a reply.
  22. Greetings, I am an international MS student at the University of Akron, OH. I will be done with my MS by next Spring. So I am planning to apply to PhD programs for Fall 2012. My areas of interest are Structural Dynamics, Earthquake Engineering. My current research topic is about Self Centering Seismic Resistant Steel Structures. The universities I am considering: Lehigh SUNY Buffalo UCSD UIUC Georgia Tech Purdue UT Austin Stanford (Long Shot) UC Berkeley (Long Shot) My credentials are: BS in Civil Engineering (Bangladesh University of Engg & Tech) GPA: 3.18 out of 4.00 MS in Civil Engineering (The University of Akron) Expected GPA: 4.00 out of 4.00 GRE: V:580 + Q: 800 + AW: 3.0 TOEFL iBT: 113 Research Experience: -Working as Graduate Research Assistant at UAkron since January 2011. -I will have a conference proceeding at 2012 ASCE Structures Congress (Abstract Submitted, main Paper is almost done, will have to submit it by December) -I am working on a Journal Paper as well. -I also had a thesis written on Building Codes for my undergrad degree. Reference: I think my research adviser at UAkron is pretty impressed with me. He is from Lehigh. I am expecting a strong recommendation from him. I will get another recommendation letter from my thesis supervisor at my Undergrad University. The other recommendation would be from one of my course teacher at UAkron. He is from UIUC. I know my undergrad GPA and GRE AW score are big drawbacks. But will my other credentials be enough to cover those? What are my chances of getting into the schools I mentioned with Assistantship/ Fellowship? Is there any other school you suggest that would be fit based on my interest and credentials? Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
