I suggest finding two admits and kidnapping them. Seems like the best way to get this done.
I KID!
If you are a good interview, then this might help, I would think. Maybe edge the other on the waiting list.
This is my thought as well. I am going to publish a pulitzer prize winner and then refuse to go to their campus and do any talks, and steer all students away from them. The dreams of petty vengeance soothe the soul.
I don't think it is an exact science, but it can't hurt to make an impression. Furthermore, it can help you find out if the teach is retiring/on leave/not taking students/an asshole before you apply. It definitely isn't a guarantee, but it works.
My feeling is that a slightly less prestigious school where you produce better research will make you seem more qualified for jobs. Based off what I have read, there will always be the committees that go with an Ivy/Big Name/Oxbridge school, but many would prefer good research from a slightly "worse" institution so they can see what you can do.
Yep. They like what I have to offer, apparently, so I need to confirm their feelings with professionalism. Also, I dress like a teenage hoodlum otherwise so I know that would make me look bad.
English first. Felt like the main qualification was agreeing with the Professors on their interpretations, which helped me change. History was much better. My first teacher there said, "We don't care what you know, we care what you can prove." Fit like a glove.
I think if you enjoy it and you aren't completely destitute (just Grad student destitute) then you might as well. And more qualifications can only make you a better applicant, especially if you publish during the second Masters.
I reject this. The etymology goes back to teaching, so if anyone has a real right to the term it is a professor. The term doctor refers to their degree. Medical doctors, as the most well known/frequently encountered doctors, have managed to get the title mostly to themselves, but that is as silly of a custom as any.
It can't get any worse, right? Call him out. Tell him his ceaseless attacks on others don't make up for his shortcomings, and go over his head. If he is so bad most students don't graduate, you won't lose anything if he sabotages you further. You can at least make things better for the next students.
There have been many, many studies done on the nature of student evaluations. They nearly always reflect the expected grade of the student. Don't take it too seriously.
I have already been accepted and given funding and all that, just have to make my final decision. My visit doesn't feel like much of an interview or anything, and everything is on the table. I'm going with button up shirt and khakis with sneakers. I hope that works for them.
I don't know if anyone has seen the movie V for Vendetta, but there is a scene where Natalie Portman finds a letter from a dead woman. The letter ends with something along the lines of, "I don't know you, but I love you and you are worth something."
That's how I feel. We are all suffering the same. And I feel for all of you.
My first post, but have been on here near constantly since I first started hearing from schools. Knowing everyone else is as neurotic as I am has been soothing.
