  1. Final words for this thread: Everyone, it has been fun to wait with you. You've made this easier, although, at times, more stressful... By now, the last result I'm waiting on should be updated on the school's website. I can't check it yet, I don't want to know. I'm submitting my MA thesis in two days, so I need to concentrate. Whatever the result may be, I want to say that this forum is great and I glad I found it. It allows me to do things as writing over-dramatic posts when I need to vent I guess I'll see some of you here again next year, unless of course we meet in a couple of days at the got-into-grad part of this forum. Anyway, good luck to us all!

  5. It all comes down to how passionate you are about your high education (sorry for being romantic). If what you want is a life in the academia, then the way I see it is that you had just been offered an opportunity to get in. I would jump at it. You can never be a 100% sure in your decisions, especially with this kind of thing, but if you seriously suspect you're going to look back and think you waisted 2 years of your life, then you probably shouldn't go for it.

  8. hang in there. I know decisions for my program have just started to go out for MA and will be going out in the next two weeks for PhD. I also saw a few postings on the results board for other programs. Looks like you won't have to wait much longer. Good Luck!

  10. it only means something good: you probably don't have to wait much longer... Is means nothing about your chances of being accepted

  13. I know it's different for each program, but I'll try to be patient and not contact them until March 31st (especially if the results board shows nothing interesting by then) Oh, well... At least it gives me time to finish my thesis (March 27th deadline) without having to deal with any news...

  17. I think it IS time to go asking. Well, I did get rejected.... However, in a very nice way. After reading at another forum that the program had made all its decisions, and that rejections are on their way, and after waiting and waiting and waiting some more, I decided to email the Graduate Counselor and ask for an update on my application status. Although she was previously not very nice and not very helpful, when I had a question at some point in the application process, this time she was very polite and wrote me a nice personal reply. Maybe she felt sorry for me because it was bad news. Anyway, I could still be waiting, as their rejection is on its way by snail mail and I live on the other side of the world... Instead, I got a direct answer after a couple of hours, saying I had a very strong application but they only had one place for an international student this year and it wasn't me... I'm glad I found out.

  19. Unfortunately, I'll have to use this again: Got rejected from U of T yesterday. I sent them an email to get an update on my application status. Got a very nice reply a couple of hours later: "Unfortunately, we were not able to admit you to the PhD program. Although your application was very strong, we were only able to admit a very small number of international applicants this year. Sorry to disappoint, and best of luck with your future studies." Now it's all up to York U. Starting to devise plan B...

  22. From what I read in other forums, it's not encouraging. The postal mail is usually (of course, not always) for rejections. I hate this - I know I'm rejected but my mind refuses to move on until I get the letter. It's good, cause it's hope, but it's actually pretty bad, cause it's false hope. Having said that, can I ask your advice on how to word an email for asking about my status? I figure at this stage it wouldn't hurt to ask...
  23. U of T: Someone posted in another forum that they called the Geography Dept. last week and were told that all decisions for the MA stream had been made, and that they'll send out remaining replies on Monday. Now it's Wednesday, and I still haven't heard anything. My application status on the website is still "under review". Although I'm waiting on the PhD stream, I'm guessing I'm just waiting for a snail mail rejection. I wish they would just take 30 seconds to look at my address, realize I'm waiting for their mail to reach the other side of the globe, and then take 30 seconds more and write me a simple email: "Sorry. You're rejected".
