ROTFLMAO! Sigh. 'Tis a pity that they don't like well hung academics. I'm pretty fond of em myself
-
I do love creative posts! Dear MDLee: While careful consideration was taken of your application, we are unable to recommend you for admission at this time. While it would be passe to admit that there were more qualified applicants than we could give spaces to--yours is a completely new situation since we find you to be entirely overqualified for our program. It has come to our attention that your research is ground breaking and threatens to completely re-write the rules of your discipline. While we would love to be able to put our name on such an endeavor, we feel it would do a dis-service to your field to keep you cooped up in this place paying academic dues for the next 6 years. That being the case, we would like to humbly request that you accept instead an honorary PhD and a position as Professor Emeritus for our campus. We wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors. Best Wishes, Head of the Department SomeIvyLeague

Suddenly I have Evan Almighty in my head... Cue the Gospel Choir: "Are you ready for a miracle? (Ready as I can be!) Are you ready for a miracle? (Ready to set you free!) Are you ready (ready) are you ready (ready) are you READY? Are you ready are you ready for a miracle!!" tehee...yay for choir singers! -
And here's hoping your app isn't in the trash. If they keep it and accept you--its worth it.

0 for 10 (where I'll be) and 0 for 11 (where you'll be) means to me that when we do our "GradCafe" meet and greet in a few months we all need to run a shot for every rejection letter we've received Sounds like some of us are gonna be passed out a lot sooner than others.

Will keep you (and the entire board) posted...

now THAT is good information. It explains so much (like why I can't get a hold of anyone over there...) THANKS RISS!!

This, of course, will cross list with all of the classes offered during the year on pirates, ninjas, and Chuck Norris. Mini-Term will include a 2 week intensive training course by Macgyver on surviving pirates and ninjas using only a used McDonald's straw, a paper clip, and a can of Barbasol. Which of course won't do you any good on Chuch Norris because according to FDR, "The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself. Also known as Chuck Norris." -
I dunno. I've heard their funding is really good though.

Not if I want to graduate in the spring. Last day to defend is April 17th. I'm defending mine on April 16th. Therefore, my draft is due to my committee by March 20th. Yuccck.

This is my feeling as well. A year off would do me good...and this professor is one of the top people in my field anyway, so working with him would be a massive honor. Things could be a heckuvalot worse.

Hormones, stress, deadlines, family drama...I've had it all and then some. It has almost gotten comical. I'm beginning to look forward to some time off, actually LoL! I haven't heard back from USC yet (::drums fingers: but I put in an email today. This should all be over soon. I think I have a good outlook because I know that this is not the end all or be all. Its what I really desperately want, but my end all and be all is something that can't be taken away. I'm pretty comfortable in the knowledge that I'll end up where I'm supposed to be. Here's hoping its someplace warm with funding

Fortunately, I've been proofreading as I go, and editing/adding etc. It should be pretty close to perfect by the time I turn it in on the 20th.

ROTFL!!! This one takes the cake.

YDS would rock. It would especially rock if you'd dreamed it. Talk about divine intervention
-
...but...since you got in...they didn't really waste your time....
-
oh Riss, that bites severely. I completely feel you. I have had a few random nervous breakdowns myself in the last couple of weeks. Buck up, it'll be okay. The world will continue to spin and you'll end up exactly where you're supposed to be at exactly the right time.

no acceptances for me ... yet ... still waiting
MDLee replied to portugabel's topic in Waiting it Out
I hate it when my folks do that! Like once I get married my entire life will be complete! PUH-LEAZE. -
LoL!! It has actually gotten to the point of humor...you know? I mean, how many epic fail moments can we have in two months? On the plus side...don't cry for me Argentina I have a contact at University of British Columbia who has told me that he would be happy to supervise my dissertation if I don't get in anywhere else. So, if its an epic fail year I'll take next semester off, work on my CV, and apply to UBC next January. Its all good.

No stress--deep breath. Make the call. It'll be okay, and it'll put your mind at ease. The admin assistants at these universities tend to be the sweetest people on the face of the planet and they completely understand that you're under stress and dying while waiting. They won't chew you out. Make sure to bring them flowers when you start school there next semester

That's actually in the Bible--Proverbs 13:12 "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is the tree of life." How true that is. \ Hope deferred will depress me for the summer. Desire fulfilled will totally give me a new lease on life

Well...I guess this is good news for both of us

The California schools are REALLY hurting this year...so I get shocked when someone DOES get admitted to their programs. Congratulations on Rutgers--that's friggin' awesome!!

If its killing you, contact the grad admissions dept for the overall university(I'm doing all of mine via phone, but if you want to do email that works too). "And directly you'll be directed in the right direction..." (Wasn't that Alice in Wonderland?) ie; they'll tell you who to talk to or give you a number for the person to contact. Then you call them and politely inquire about the status of your application. It should clear a few things up (or at least give you as much current info as you can get). Good luck!
