  1. Awesome! CCA and San Fran are a doubly good thing. Enjoy!
  2. Thanks Josholas!! Yes, I am more of a new genre guy, so hopefully the painters are next!
  3. Univ of Oregon - Checked status online and says: Department Recommendation: Admitted, Conditional Masters, Art. Graduate School Action: Pending So, it looks like they have made decisions but have not yet sent them out.
  4. Hi guys, these are really terrific questions, but I am certainly not the best person to answer them. Definitely email the departments and see what they say. The Financial Aid people are the best shot, and start by searching their sites for "International Applicants" to see if there is direct contact info...best of luck! (From what I have seen, international funding is rare outside of PhD-level research academia. BUT, I have heard of some schools funding international students well...I believe UCSD, where I currently do my undergrad, does 1 or so a year...the bigger research institutions such as state-funded universities are the best bet on this. But, find the schools you like and contact them for sure)
  5. I think UCLA made first round decisions on New Genres and Media Arts...that's what I've been hearing or have come across on this Forum. Don't think I've seen any of the painting people say they received an answer from them.
  6. Yes, 33K x2 = 66K, and that's just tuition, right? So, you're looking at 66K (probable tuition) + 20K (at least, for living expenses for two years... if you go home your first summer) + 10+K to make the art you want to make (supplies, etc). You could be spending 90~100+K on that education. I say, not worth it by any means...it's tough to get great funding at most schools for overseas people Where are you located? Are you EU? They have such terrific funding for EU people from what I've seen.
  7. UCLA: heard of people on here getting into the traditional MFA (new genres I believe?), but also I was hearing notifications will go out later...I'm supposed to hear from the program I applied to (media arts MFA) early next week. Best of luck!
  8. Sorry about the Hunter rejections, people I've heard that program is brutal to get into...aside from being top-notch, it's the best deal financially in NYC. They must get 500+ applications...if not more. Here's looking to better weeks ahead.
  9. Lol, no worries, I can understand that feeling, but you have to figure so many of these people will have 8,472 calls a week. Adding to that noise will not endear you to them in any way (and, it certainly won't help any decision making after they have talked to you and seen all your goodies, etc)...that's my feeling about it. I mean, I'd be pretty annoyed with some candidate calling me up 50 times while things were pending. That being said, if one does have a valid reason to talk to them beyond "Where's my admission answer?!", then by all means give them a call!
  10. Aww, yeah, where IS kazoo. She's a love... As far as contacting, naa...if they want to talk to me, they can call/email (and they do). I don't like bugging people no matter how stressed I may be. Not my style. Plus, you eventually find out one way or the other, so why bother?
  11. A friend of mine got accepted to RISD during his actual interview just now. D+M program...kill it my brotha.
  12. I have to agree. I had my interview there last Friday (media arts) and since the program is part of the same department, and after talking to several Arts grads across genres, it seems they def. interview the people they have an interest in. Conrgats to all on the various good news going around! And, best of luck to all this week.
  13. Nope. No Cornell word as of yet! ...I don't think Cornell designates disciplines, as I recall.
  14. Lol, I guess so! Thanks so much Email...it was an automated one that told me to check my application status...makes the heart skip some beats while fumbling trying to remember what email address you used along with password, lol *** Also, they gave me a half ride scholarship for tuition in first year, and we TA for some extra living $$$...then, one is up for a full tuition schol. in the second year...it's a terrific deal for such a potentially expensive school!
  15. Accepted to Univ of Chicago! Much love to all of you this week...hoping many get good news as well.
  16. You did?! Awesome! Good luck if it means you are still in the running! The grad that I talked to said they did all of the interviews at once (and this person said they were part of the review process), so it might be the potential "Waitlist" people they are contacting??? Either way, best of luck! It's a fantastic program with lots of support. Or, of course, it could me you are indeed in the running...it's always hard to tell, but I am sure they would not waste your (or their own) time with a "lie" if they were not interested
  17. Gosh, I'd be surprised if SVA offered aid at all!! Seriously, though, I believe in their catalogue they mention there is aid for NY residents, but little more than that. It's a very expensive school
  18. Yeah, haven't heard form UO either...I think I remember a recent post here about a week ago from someone that said they received a request for an interview, but nothing else from others...best of luck!
  19. ...lol, leave it to Harmony-Korine to make a strange/disturbing video to accompany a pretty straight forward song.
  20. Sounds right I know that the Integrated Media aspect (that was often popular for Film and Media peeps) has been around for quite awhile now...I heard it is getting better, but in the past had difficulty (as most anything "media arts" -like does) in being listened to by the traditional arts people.
  21. There are a couple things going on there with art and tech, and they seem to be very interesting: http://art.calarts.edu/programs/art-and-technology (an MFA degree) http://calarts.edu/academics/programs-and-degrees/integrated-media (a supplemental coursework option that you can combine with other degree granting dept's) Hope this helps!
  22. I think a good list would be, for the more techie programs in Cali, North to South (anyone wishes to add any, go for it): - Mills / Intermedia - UCSC / danm - SJSU / cadre - UCSB - CalArts / film&media - USC / cinema (has a gaming MFA) - UCLA / d-ma - UCSD To add New Genres: - SFAI - CCA - UC Berkeley - Stanford - SFSU - UC Davis - Art Center - UCLA (traditional masters prog) - Otis (...maybe...) - CSULB - UCI - SDSU
  23. Hi Yoo, no, I think they did all the Skype/phones as well...I only saw two other candidates during the time I was there (for a couple hours)...I talked to a grad student in the dept., later at a show on campus, and that person told me they got all 14 (or 15? Can't remember...) done in a day. Where else did you apply for media art??? Interested to hear... Good luck!
