  1. Not the two places I have interviews with (UChicago and UCLA)...I have heard of some people (my friends, mainly) saying a school might request to see new work, but that has not been my experience so far (i.e., no requests to bring more stuff with me...as a matter of fact, they have said not to bring ANYthing with me). Plus, I'm pretty sure most places will judge you on the work you submitted, but ask you the kinds of things you are working on currently (without showing physical samples). The latter makes more sense to me because they figure you sent your best work (a "You made your bed, you lay in it" kind of thinking). Plus, the meetings are so short (15-30 min's), they don't have time to look at new work and have you try and explain it...
  2. Waitlisted for Alfred University. Contacted via slug mail.
  3. @tysonr2: Many thanks! Wish me luck @kazoo: Awesome! Get it
  4. Full ride and Fellowship! Very very niiiiice Congrats! And, congrats to all the others as well
  5. It was via email...but, I am applying to the "sister" art program in Design | Media Arts (more computer-y new genres-ish), so the "traditional" MFA might do it later/differently. Best of luck!
  6. Merci Kazoo! "Vous ĂȘtes 'doux'", comme on dit aux Etats-Unis!
  7. Sweeeeet. Just got an interview request for UCLA!
  8. Reeeee-JECT-ed by University of Michigan! On to University of Chicago interview next Friday. (btw, a good friend of mine has an interview at Northwestern, for those of you interested in that school. March 3rd...looks like I struck on that school too, ha.)
  9. Flights from London to NYC (then, train to New Haven) are fairly reasonable this time if year. If I were planning on uprooting myself to another country, I'd try and get out at least once...are you applying to any other US schools? You could spend a week checking them out. Best of luck!
  10. Yes, there have been a couple that were accepted (including persons posting to this particular forum)...I'm also with you in the group that has been neither accepted nor rejected...yet. A likely scenario for this fact is that we didn't make the first cut, but we are in some sort of second round. Best of luck to both of us!
  11. No problem at all. If it didn't happen, it didn't happen. Best of luck in your interview!
  12. Yale fascinates me in the sense that, I wonder how it gets so much love?...It is Eastern seaboard and near NYC, so that's easy to understand (potential for gallerists to come by), it has had some awesome teachers (Albers in painting, some terrific photogs, etc), but there are so many other schools out there that are just as awesome and perhaps more so. Certainly VCU , for instance...their sculpture seems to have even more professorial weight in the art world and those students have the same opportunities for gallery people to swing by and take a peak (but, like all schools, this is no guarantee). MICA too. RISD...so, anyway, I'm surprised by the Yale "mystique". Maybr it's those killer, ivy covered Neo-Gothic classrooms...hell, I'd go there just to get drunk and wander the campus, lol. All of that being said, none of this is meant to take away from those going to interview, nor the program itself...just more of a sociological question.
  13. This is so true...it's like getting accepted/rejected to art shows. It's a total crap shoot...also, look at our creative friends in the creative writing MFA world. Those people have at least the same difficulty (if not more so) in getting into top grad schools for writing. It's absurd. For instance, Brown University is considered one of the top programs in the country and they admit 4-5 out of a pool of nearly 700. That is more difficult than getting into than Harvard med school. Brutal. So, no worries. All any of us need is just one program to love us out of the places we've applied to, and we'll be on our way. If not, we have a whole year to make more work, and that's not a bad thing.
  14. I applied to Michigan and UCSB as well, but have not heard anything...esp. from Mich (though, I know their interviews are supposed to be mid-this month, so not feeling confident about that school)...I have seen a couple people get accepted to UCSB, as well as rejected, back around 01/20-23...so, my guess is, we are still in the running for "Second Round". Wish us luck! And, again, congrats to the Yale people for interviews! Hope you guys kill it.
  15. I currently attend UCSD in VisArts and have many grad friends in the MFA program...after looking at your tumblr, I could honestly say your work would definitely fit in with the "new genres" crowd here. We have some awesome professors in the department: Lev Manovich (new media), Benjamin Bratton (new media/design), Ricardo Dominguez and Brett Stalbaum (radical social media), J-P Gorin (film), Anya Gallaccio (famous YBA artist), and a host of others... The program is fully funded, has excellent teaching opportunities, and you can take either 2 or 3 years to finish. I can't recommend it any higher. The program is top notch for new genres... Best of luck with your apps!
  16. Awesome job you two! Look forward to hearing what you guys think of the program out there. Kill it.
  17. They call the three people you list on the app as contacts if they are interested in you.
  18. Zactly! Sure hope that's the case...I have two schools on my list that seem to have sent out their rejections and some acceptances, so hopefully I (and we!) will get in the second "round"
  19. Lolol.... "Any news yet?"... "Actually, yeah, I heard from three schools before I even turned in their applications! Pretty awesome, right???"
  20. "...you know the unemployment level for artists is about 12%. What do you want to do after you get an MFA?" "Go and get a PhD in Film Studies" "So, you want to make films?" :/ "No, I only want to talk about them" "Oh..."
  21. Lol, yay February! I sure hope some schools get back to us in a definite way this week and next...the anticipation is kinda brutal. It's killing my desire to do any homework...
  22. The website has 25 January as a deadline for most Portfolios, and yesterday (30th) for an "extended" deadline for Painting (if that is your interest)...so, oops... http://www.rca.ac.uk...ontentID=161371
